So, I was right. Possibly.

Price isn't necessarily unrealistic if that's the direction they want to go in.

Nintendo could use a mobile GPU like PowerVR's GT7900, which is actually pretty damn powerful. At 800 GFLOPS it would smoke a Wii U and is cheap and far more power efficient even a Wii U (it's from the guys who make the iPhone/iPad GPUs after all).

Either this is true and it's a handheld, or extremely fake. Or it's true, and a console, and Nintendo is making way dumber decisions than usual.

So many rumors about this... I won't believe in any of them until actual info is released, though there are some rumors that I would like to see for the NX..

I don't neccessarily think having a cheap console variant would be a bad idea per se.

NX Portable - $229.99 (large LCD display)

NX Mini Console - Mobile chip parts, micro-console, for people who just want to play some MK or Splatoon and not pay a ton. $169.99.

NX Pro Console - Same mobile chip parts, but just scaled up to 1.5-2.4 TFLOPS, runs games at 1080p with added effects.

Some people simply don't want to pay $200+ just to play some Nintendo games, but they might be OK with something cheaper than that as a secondary gaming device. So a cheap NX model wouldn't be a bad idea just to get more people into the NX ecosystem. 

Fourth? If we count the Nintendo consoles that were underpowered compared to their PS competitor, only the Wii and WiiU (and the NX if it turns out to be lagging in power) are underpowered. Am I missing a system? And if we are counting the handhelds, it would be the fifth (DS less powerful than PSP, 3DS less powerful than the Vita).

This is what I pretty much think as well. It'll be an upgrade to be sure, but won't push the boundries. I just can't really think of anything Nintendo could do that would keep them from talking about it openly. What new ways to play are their going to be? VR and augmented reality is out, we know that already. What else could it be? They should be the first to give us 4K and whatever the next physical media is going to be. It's not going to happen, and at the end of the day I will be fine with it, unless they pull another Wii. While it's a system I enjoyed, having a Gamecube (technically) for around a decade SUCKED! I'm of a mind that even if you go cheaper hardware, you should never stay in the same place. Even though the Wii U is less powerful than the PS4, it is still a massive improvement over the Wii. They need to keep making these jumps. 

I could make "rumors" like this too.

"Paper Mario for the NX, NX price aimed to be $199.99. Power-gap is same as Wii and GameCube"

Easy to come up with stuff like that really quick.

I could see Nintendo releasing a new, revised version of Wii U, one that uses a System-on-Chip, rather than a Multi-Chip-Module.
A SOC would reduce manufacturing costs because it's literally one chip with all the processing tech in and using one reduces multiple stages of making each system, it could even allow Nintendo to reduce power consumption by going to a 28nm manufacturing process, which instantly would reduce TDP, so they could definitely shrink the size of the box further.

Making a new chip they could even include 3DS processing technology into the die, allowing the new model of Wii U to play 3DS games without emulation.
Costs could very likely be reduced to allow this system to hit that kind of price point.

I can see NX being a new Philosophy with a Wii U/3DS hybrid console being how they launch it.
If this is what NX starts out as being, it could very well be announced at E3 2016 and release in the holidays.

Nintendo could then include all of that tech into their true 9th generation system, just with another core 9th gen SOC, but the overall system adds that very same Wii U/3DS SOC onto the motherboard of a system capable of running next gen multiplats and higher end Nintendo games.

As the 9th gen rolls around the more powerful model could be released.
