Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: We're Not Interested In High End Specs (Hardware)

"...rather than going after the high-end tech spec race and trying to create the most powerful console, really what we want to do is try to find a console that has the best balance of features with the best interface that anyone can use. "

But... isnt nintendo lacking alot of features other 2 consoles has? and its power is like 1/10th.

Ugh, damn it. NOT what I wanted to hear, but still hopeful that Nintendo will wow us with NX.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

Any PC gamer will tell you that high-end specs and PS4/XBO specs are two different categories. If Ninty doesn't edge out the PS4 in terms of graphics with the NX, there won't be much point for Wii U owners to "upgrade".

Sure, the 3DS-only crowd will be getting some better looking games, most likely, but that does nothing for those of us who really love the beauty of "Mario Kart 8" and would love to see Nintendo play with some different ary styles that require the extra juice.

EDIT: I know that Miyamoto said that all realistic game looks the same, but that doesn't mean that games like Ratchet and Clank haven't benefitted from the extra horsepower of the PS4 - in much the same way that "Mario Sunshine" was a huge leap graphically from the N64.

Cost

So basically, Nintendo doesn't want to go through a bit of risk? Don't they have enough money to produce like thirty unsuccessful consoles?

Why risk anything that could cost you, just to make a better console for your fans?

More fun to go lay on your big piles of monies, and be happy.

This kinda sounds like Nintendo is giveing up the console race, with a attitude like this... I doubt we ll ever see them ontop anymore

(unless they pull a rabbit out of their arses and make a Wii like hit again).

I called this a long time ago, I even have bets against two members that NX won't significantly exceed PS4 in specs.

lol, as if ps4 and x1 are high and. also, as if a console from 2016/2017 would need to be high end in order to be much more powerfull than ps4.

They need to at least match PS4/XB1 specs with NX if they want 3rd parties back, if only for a year or two until PS5 and XB4 release and the power gap is huge again. Often 3rd parties are not willing to downscale their games to run on weaker hardware, that's been shown time and again.

"if only for a year or two until PS5 and XB4 release and the power gap is huge again"

again? the gap is rather small now.

"Often 3rd parties are not willing to downscale their games to run on weaker hardware, that's been shown time and again."

than why are they doing the opposite of that with their ps360 ports?

Both MS and Sony push to the limits, what they can sell you for those 400$.

When you sell something and make little to no profit on the sales themselfs, you cant really complain.

Do you want MS & Sony to start selling 600$+ consoles again?

I don't think it will match the PS4, let alone exceed it.

As I said before, that will present a problem for me. I love Nintendo games, but if they aren't enough of a step up in graphics I'll have a hard time justifying another purchase (especually since the Wii U set me back $300).

They will use the same mobile CPU/GPU (system on chip) for both the portable and home device I'd bet, the home version will just be a bit more powerful.

Nintendo will love this because the console will be able to be very small, very low power, and very quiet ... it will could very easily be smaller than even the Wii and run with less electricity.

The Nvidia Shield console with the Tegra X1 processor (a mobile chip that will eventually be in tablets) is probably a good idea of what to expect:

500 GFLOPS of power with 4GB of RAM ... for $199.99, today. Probably exactly the ballpark Nintendo likes.

I can honestly say I could see that happending....

Not sure how I feel about it though, I think instead of useing a old Nvidia tech chip they should design their own with AMD.

If they dont use Hybrid Memory Cube technology ram, for their next console, they are doing something wrong.

I just want them to do a custom "this gen or new gen" design APU with HMC ram tech.

MS and Sony could not have used this groundbreaking ram technology when they designed their consoles because it wasnt ready at the time.
