Forums - Sony - New PS4 Model (Updated With New Info)

The new ram thing, and PSU quality to make them more effecient makes sense.

Its a tiny boost, but not enough to be called a SLIM version.

Now we just need them to Shrink the APU die down from 28nm -> 20nm / 16 or 14nm FinFETs
And release a slim version of the consols.

very dissapointing

i thought they would go for at least 1tb and / or ac wlan

this is just an internal revison, like every manufactures does without announcing anything

I'm sure Sony will be very worried that you are concerned.

How did they cut power consumption by 8% and make it 10% lighter? any info on that?

probl less nm on the chip.

lol no.
probably better gddr5 ram, with less consumption

there is no die shrink. a die shrink would reduce the power consumption by something like 30%
reduced wight could be due to different materials, and other tweaks. i just hope, they don't used just cheaper and lighter parts and made a tradeoff on the durability

It's getting an announcement probably just due to the fact that it looks physically different, even if it's only one part of it.

Edit: Not to mention this could be the first time the glacier white system is available outside of Destiny bundles in the US, which would be pretty neat. More color options are never a bad thing.

Most likely a new (more efficient) power supply.

I remember Samsung announcing more efficient GDDR5 chips some time ago, could be that to. Don't think AMD is ready for a die shrink yet, and think the power saving would be bigger if that were the case.

Two posts. One about the fact this is disappointing and the next suggesting it could lessen the durability ... Nice.

at least you seem to be worried about me being concerned
don't think sony does even care about my option. they will care, when they loose some of theire momentum, though.
this revision is not enough to attract consumers. but it's a new cheaper and ligher model for the same price, that will save sony money and reduce costs.

but it's no "new" model

It might not be the die shrink everyone wants.... but new lighter PSU + more efficient GDDR5 is a start.

Yeah, that should bring down the power consumption definitely, but it wouldn't explain the loss in weight. So it might just be both of them, slightly better RAM and a slightly better PSU.

Two posts. None about the topic, only personal attacks on me for no, or defensive consolewarrior, reasons ... Nice.
