I don't think Thank God is really the right way to look at it. Sure, I don't care about BC. But I wouldn't be upset if they did end up adding it, it's not like it makes my experience any worse or anything.

It is really thank God because they can waste time developing better things for PS4.

If they see the needs to release a Remake or HD Remaster then they can pay BluePoint to do that

You're selling this short. A PS4 that could play PS1, PS2 and PS3 discs would be amazing.

Its not just the backwards compatibility, its how well it integrates into the X1. Its seriously impressive that you can still use the X1 dashboard, plus features like recording and streaming.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

At this point, I just don't see it happening.

PS3 and PS4 are their own things, I guess...

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Sony doesn't have to do a thing. They are already the leader in sales. BC isn't going to magically make the Xbox One come back in sales. Most 3rd parties have pledged loyalty to Sony, and Sony makes some of the hypingest trailers in gaming today. They have no worries.

This.  MS is trying to be competitive by adding limited BC to the xbox one.

Nice feature I rekon but limited backwards compatibility is somewhat useless to me. I use my fat ps3 quite a bit for ps1 and 2 because of full backwards compatibility. I don't use my 360 for backwards compatibility because it's so hit and miss. I just stick to the original for that. Nice feature but I will just start up one of my 360s. I use my wii for all gamecube games because of full backwards compatibility.

Quite easily, they could release an update that recognizes PS1, PS2 and PS3 games but when you insert the disc it loads up PS Now and plays the game for free. Achieves the goal. DRM acceptable. The only downside is there is no guarantee that a. Sony will put the game on PS Now and b. what happens when the license expires or the game is taken down?

It's not the perfect solution but Sony could easily implement it. Whether they want to or not is another thing.

XBL: NathObeaN | PSN: NathObeaN | Steam: NathObeaN

The other thing is that people could elect to buy a PS3 (or 2 or 1 or Vita) game outright via PSNow and play it streaming rather than download. If you expect to get a lot of play time out of a game you will prefer to buy it because that is the lowest cost per hour.

I don't see the point of having partial backwards compatibility. FULL backwards compatibility would be amazing though.

I hope they dont do that, it will cost them too much money. They should counter the BC from xbox one with a PS2 and PS1 emulator which would run any game on the PS4. Why they should run a server for free just because you own some disc which some one could have gotten anywhere? If people want BC then keep your ps3 or buy one new or used.
