Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: games nowadays look so realistic that they all look the same

Tell that to Ratchet and Clank, Tearaway, Dreams, LBP, Thatgamecompany games, or many more unique looking ones. Ones that try to be realistic look more realistic but even there they have a distinct visual flair like Horizon and the Order and Destiny all looking pretty different. Geez Miyamoto it's not all about graphics.

Agree to disagree but I personally find that all Bungie games infuse a cartoony look with a realistic look. Destiny is no different, as is Halo and Oni. They have a very particular art style that they are famous for that they gracefully brush into all their games. Of course all the games look different visually but you can very clearly see the Bungie effect.

Halo Reach was an attempt to look more realistic and drop the cartoony look. In my opinion it was a bad idea and didn't look or feel like Halo. Halo 4 and 5 by 343i seems to be playing the middle ground of the two.

I agree that both Horizon and the Order of 1886 both have a great distinct flare to them as you stated. Both are fantastic looking games while being very pleasing to the eye.

Once again people refuse to read beyond the headline and misinterpret Miyamoto's statement. His exact quote is, "A lot of games nowadays look so realistic that they all look the same." A lot of games, not all games. They look the same when they aim for realism, not all times.

So you guys can stop pointing to whatever non-realistic games you think of. They have nothing to do with Miyamoto's statement. He did not say that all games look the same. He did not even say that all realistic games look the same.

well he isnt entirely wrong. The more photorelistic graphics get the closer they will all look the same unless you start playing with number of colours used and tones like small niche games and movies do.

Everything they say that is negative about their competitor or the industry is just them being upset and salty right? Haha...

I think your trying to make a "joke" of this matter is a defense mechanisme, so people dont go that path.

You must realise it can be taken that way, otherwise you wouldnt have felt the need to post that.

Honestly alot of Nintendos PR is just "we re good at everything, our competitors suck" or

"we did good, its just our greatness is misunderstood by consumers".

I`m not really sure what you mean with your comment. It`s just something I notice going on with Nintendo as of late. Whatever they say, people feel a need to attack them and say how foolish and upset they are with the competition. I agree that some of the things they are saying is questionable, but I do think some of the points they make have some merit to them.

And this is just about Miyamoto`s comment, and not Nintendo PR in general. Miyamoto made a comment about the industry in general, and people seem to be attacking him, saying how it`s a PR stunt, how jealous he is, and bringing up games within same franchises when trying to make a point against him, instead of bringing up games which Miyamoto claims to be samey.

I agree with him to a certain extent

This guy needs to look at his own games before commenting on others.. *cough* Mario and Star Fox.

Sometimes Miyamoto should just stay quiet really. I firmly disagree with him about this.

Well, that's like saying that all movies look the same because they all look realistic. Or are they really gonna tell me that The Division, Horizon Zero Dawn, Star Wars Battlefront, Uncharted, Ryse, The Order, Destiny, FarCry 4, Infamous, Batman, Witcher 3, etc, they all look same? come on.

And my apologies to the Nintendo fans but I'll have to call him out on this one. For someone who loves to wave around the "Diversity and originality" flag so much, he does like to put way too many 2D platformers out. And yes, I know there are other genres available on the Wii U, but I think five 2D platformers in less than three years is going overboard. Especially when you have only one game that could be called FPS, only one Open-World and only one action adventure game.

And yes, I know some different genres are coming out later on, but that doesnt change the fact that FIVE 2D platformers got the attention first.

Nintendo Look??

The "Nintendo look" has quite variety don´t you think? Maybe you are talking about... the MARIO look?

the fact that you had to gather pics from 3 generations of nintendo consoles to find variety in artistic style really says almost everything...

...the fact all the variety in your variety are gamecube games says the rest.

There was only one GC game in that list.

Someone got exposed.
