Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: games nowadays look so realistic that they all look the same

That's just not true Shiggy. Just because not everyone other company thinks people want to play a cartoon does not mean they all look the same.

This is as stupid of comment as it would be for me to say "All movies look the same".

Halo looks nothing like CoD.. AC while having similar quality of graphics looks nothing like Far Cry.

Its comments like these that make me have no faith in whatever Nintendo is cooking up with the NX.

I actually hate this comment. THIS is why they refuse to make the Zelda we all want. OoT - TP there is a reason those were the most popular.

To be fair Halo is a very Cartoony looking game while CoD looks very realistic so I don't think that would be a fair comparison at all. I much prefer Halo's brighter colors and  half-cartoony art style. I will admit Reach changed this and I would debate this for the worse. Halo 4 tried to balance out both and ended up looking a little.... well.... meh.

I think games like CoD and Battlefield look way too similar and for obvious reasons.

So what games does Miyamoto consider "not somewhat cartoony"?

Well, that's a hard question, considering Miyamoto seems to being unable to tell differences between those given that he thinks they all look the same. But don't worry, If we were to use deductive analysis on his words, "a lot of games nowadays" (nowadays meaning 2013 onwards), "look so realistic" = aiming for realism, we can safely conclude Miyamoto is refering to the 75% (remember, he said "a lot", not "all") of games from this list:

  • Bloodborne

  • Bound by Flame

  • Contrast

  • The Crew

  • Destiny

  • Driveclub

  • Dying Light

  • Evolve

  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance

  • Murdered: Soul Suspect

  • The Order: 1886

  • Quantum Break

  • Ryse: Son of Rome

  • Scalebound

  • Titanfall

  • Until Dawn

  • Watch_Dogs

  • ZombiU

  • Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy
  • Aliens: Colonial Marines
  • Assassin's Creed
  •  Batman: Arkham Knight
  • Battlefield
  • Call of Duty
  • Dark Souls

Are people here just looking for something to argue about?

Yes, yes they are. You see this place is filled with gamers of all ethnic backgrounds whether they be from Hyrule, Tamriel, Azeroth, Norion, The Citadel, The Mushroom Kingdom, or name your world here. They all gather here to this common ground bazaar to talk about their favorite adventures. However there seems to be this strange religion called "Nintendo" that every one seems to be talking about. They claim that their messiah will be bringing a radiant light called the "Triforce NX" that will cast judgement on their enemies. The bloodshed is comparable to that of the Crusades.

I just think it's pointless arguing over what Miyamoto said when what he said was so vague.

Since when did "a lot" mean 75%?

Since your only problem with my posts seems to be that 75% =/= a lot, I'm going to asume everything else was spot-on. :P

Yes a big problem with Nintendo is that they are closed minded, but they would love any of those games that Miyamoto is referring to to be on the WiiU.Haven't Nintendo been begging for some COD love or AC? he made an ignorant generation which shows how out of touch Nintendo is with gaming today. You have Horizon announced with Ratchet & CLank, Tearaway, No Man's Sky, The Last Guardian, Dreams, Dragon Quest Heroes, Persona, Rime and Tomorrow Children to offer a contrast and counter to his comment, but he ignores more than half of the games released or coming out thus far. Realism does not equal similar as a lot of hte cartoony games and 2D games from the past looked the same due to their art style.

Just trying to tackle things one at a time. That's not my only problem with your post but it's the one I wish to focus on because "a lot" are the words provided by, I assume, an interpreter.

When I say "a lot", I don't always mean 75% but that's just me. I imagine it varies with other people as well.

I'm just trying to eliminate ambiguity here and one way that could be achieved is by finding out what Miyamoto meant when he said "a lot". 50%? 25%? 99%? The appropriate course of action after Miyamoto's quote would have been to ask for clarification and some examples. Some users in this thread didn't do that though and just pounced.

The appropiate course of action would have been Miyamoto not being vague enough to cause controversy, but as it stands, people have enough motives to show a negative response from his statement.

...even if "a lot" equals to 25%, or even 15%, the statement is still not true.

It's a matter of opinion. I ask for people to clarify their opinions regularly. Just wish more people in this thread would have done the same.

Nintendo Look??

The "Nintendo look" has quite variety don´t you think? Maybe you are talking about... the MARIO look?

the fact that you had to gather pics from 3 generations of nintendo consoles to find variety in artistic style really says almost everything...

...the fact all the variety in your variety are gamecube games says the rest.

Only 1 game there it´s a gamecube game, the other one is an HD version of a gamecube game. So only 1/2 games out 7, close enough...

That says it all about your coment.

I was talking about the "Nintendo look" in general, but if you want to talk about only this generation here you have:

All in one single generation. They look the same RIGHT?
