Forums - Sales - OOH SO THATS WHAT HAPPENED! MSFT Explains supply issues :-/

I call complete bull. The 360 only sold marginally better in 2007 than 2006. Companies stockpile all year for the holidays.

Their sales are nowhere near Nintendo's so no caparison can be made. They are also only constrained in one territory.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

Well there you have it pooper. Microsoft underestimated the STRONG USA demand for the Xbox 360 resulting in shortages.

starcraft, be honest now. Do you REALLY believe that sales in November can effect supply in Feb? Seriously now, if they are airshipping consoles to retailers, how is that possible? It doesn't take a month to make a console. The 360 is selling the least in Europe, and doesn't even exist for the most part in Japan. How is it possible that they are having shortages?

You know this is a load of crap, just like we knew Sony was lying when they said the same thing last year. What do you want them to say seriously? "The Xbox360 isn't selling that well right now. We don't know why, maybe people are fed up with RRoD, maybe we are past our prime. I dunno dog. But Sony is definitely handing it to us."

When nearly the entire country shuts down for almost an entire month in January, it's very easy to carry supply shortages for two months in Chinese-supplied devices.

Seriously, some of you people are just talking out of your asses. There was a shortage. It existed. There should be no debate about that. It also taks time to react to this shortage, especially when you're trying to do it in the middle of the Chinese New Year.

That excuse worked for Nintendo didn't it!?

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

anyway

supply problems or not

the release of gta iv and the coming months will tell us all that we need to know

''Hadouken!''

So because sales were higher months before, MS had shortages in January and February when, compared to everyone else, they were selling pathetic numbers of their consoles?

This makes no sense.

That excuse worked for Nintendo didn't it!?

No, the Nintendo "excuse" for lower supply in January was that the supply chain is 2-4 weeks long and Nintendo bypassed it by air freighting units for the holidays. That affected January sales to an extent (there were fewer units in the supply chain), but there's no way in hell it would affect Feb sales.

Supply chains can make reactions take a while -- maybe 2 or 3 or even 4 weeks, but there's no feasible reason that a company with warehouses full of units would have their supply dry 6 and 7 weeks after they hit peak demand.

Part of the thing that makes this suspicious is that Xbox 360 sales are *so very low* world wide.  It does well during the holiday season and that's it.  So how *can't* you keep up with these terrible sales, especially if you aren't the least bit concerned about getting a console out there that will last 12 months.

I don't see anyone denying supply problems, the diffence of opinion comes whether to believe their reason or not. I do not. How can you be in third place for the month and say that supply problems are from retail demand? Demand for new parts and replacement systems I would believe.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
