Forums - Gaming - Are Publishers revealing games too early?

I'm beginning to think theres a trend of anouncing games that are basically still concepts and it's seriously irritating. SE seems to be a big perpetrator of this revealing Neir 2 at their conference with stills of artwork similar to what EA used to reveal Mass Effect 4 and Mirror's Edge at last year's E3. Oh and don't even get me started on Nintendo. Someone even made a thread about their problems specifically. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=204692&page=0#

Thoughts?

Only if they end up releasing more than 2 years later, so 3 years at least.

Look at Last Guardian especially, XCX, dumb Woolly Wool Wool and I can't think of more.

no. it shows that they will support the system long in the future and makes people decisiion which console to buy easier.

That's why it's great to have yearly games. They spice up things while you're waiting.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

No they are alright

I tink most games should be unveiled 1.5 years early like E3 the year before it fall release so that they can suprise build the hype and then showcase gameplay at next years E3

but for sometime titles like GTA,MGS,FINAL FANTASY,GRAN TURISMO or other great titles, they could push it to 2-3years as those franchises have the brand name to back them up and are very very high quality which takes time but that might damage sales and hype as 3 years can be too long

Comprison.

On the landing page of this website is is a news article about the next Dontnod game, Vampyr, it comes out in 2017.

Fallout 4, the game everyone wants, comes out in November this year.

Basically. Yes. I think no game should be announced more than a year in advanced. We the gamers like to see what they have in store, not just some dodgy CGI video (see FFVII and ME:Andromeda)

Hmm, pie.

YES! When I hear about a game I really want. I want the release date to be within a year. Now Shenmue is an exception since they were starting a kickstarter for it but most games need to be revealed when they know when they'll release and they are firmly a part of reality so as to avoid any future TLG situations.

But I already know they'll support their system the devs aren't sitting around twittling their thumbs

Square Enix has been doing that for years, looks like they haven't learned from FF versus XIII, I'm really curious to see if their Project Setsuna is actually going to come out next year, doubt it very much.

They're like giggy school children that can't keep a secret.
