No, it reads like they will talk about it in 2016, which they've said. 2016 is definitely when it'll launch.

Nope. Just means that this is the home console varient. The unified platform is already confirmed.

Unless you're referring to the stupid notion that you'll have to "dock" some portable gamepad to play those games on your TV. Yeah, this pretty much confirms that's not happening.

But here's another hard confirmation from yesterday by the director in charge of Metroid Prime.

"If we started for Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo's NX console."

NX console. Not hand held. He even specifically referred to the Wii U in the preceding sentence. It's confirmed. Hard. Twice.

None of that is "hard confirmation". If you want true confirmation, wait until Nintendo makes their direct that officially announces the NX and what it is. As it stands, everybody guessing it must be a home console is completely forgetting that when the NX was announced, Nintendo said it wasn't going to replace any of their current hardware, but rather supplement it. They had that vague infographic and everything that effectively told people nothing. "But a guy who isn't really all that involved with Nintendo game development anymore thinks the NX is probably a home console!" That is as much speculation on part of that person as every other thread about the NX on this site.

I think it is more logical from a business point of view that the NX is a handheld, powerful enough to handle Wii U level type games and its home console brother. They can't really afford to fuck up their handheld business, which I think it is more of a priority than the home console side.

The NX being a home console doesn't dispute it being part of a family of devices. It just means that the NX is the home console variant. I'm 100% sure there's an NXDS as well and I'm 90% sure that will launch in 2016 as well.

Winning VGChartz is referring to the fact that in January of 2014, after that financial briefing, I specifically called that that the Wii U would be replaced by a unified platform of systems launching specifically at Holiday 2016 and that would replace the Wii U and 3DS. I wasn't talking about it being a home console vs. handheld. I thought, and still think, it's both.
