The Vita TV was ahead of it's time.

No, it's behind. That's not what this topic is talking about at all. (I assume)

This is talking about a handheld and console that have the same software and firmware relationship that the iphone has with the ipad, connected through the same ID system as the Apple ID. Completely different from the Vita TV. A cloud service will be integral to the fusion concept because cross save, buy, and play would have to work natively for every single game for the concept to be successful. It's not to the Vita TV. There are no docks. One library. Unlimited hardware variations.

Yep, that was what I was getting at. A home console that allows you to play a sizable portion (if not all) of the handheld form-factor's games, and a handheld that lets you play a decent portion (if not most/all) of the home platform's games.

As for graphics/performance, PC gaming and especially mobile gaming has already shown us how scalability can work with semi-open/open platforms.

That is like saying online gaming was a "been there done that" deal because the PS2, GC, Xbox and Dreamcast had modems that you could buy/ ethernet port.

I could see them doing something with their next handheld that takes the off-screen play of the Vita and has it go both ways. You could stream console games onto the handheld like you can on the Vita, and the console could stream games off the handheld. However, the technology, or at least the general concept, of playing handheld games on the TV and console games on a handheld have both been done before. Nothing new under the Sun, and nothing that's going to be a huge selling point for either system. It's one of those things that might be a nice thing to have, but nothing that's going to make people go flocking to the stores.

I don't interpret the fusion concept as streaming though. You won't need a handheld to play the handheld games, and vice-versa. You only need one form-factor to play most games that will release on both form-factors. You can buy the handheld if you prefer portability, the console if you prefer visuals/performance/better controls, or both if you prefer both. This is a unified platform just like Apple's IOS or Android's Google Play store in which you buy one game and you can play it on both form factors (in the case of those examples it is mobile/tablet.)

It won't need to stream. The games will be playable natively on both. Think Sly Cooper on Vita and PS3, only on every game and not nearly as clunky to swap save files.

If you think that's not a huge selling point, I can't help you. It has never been done before as universally and as seamlessly as this fusion concept will.
