Forums - Gaming - E3: What happened to the future of gaming - VR, AR and Steam Machines?

The future of gaming is...

VR - AR 2 22.22%

Nostalgia (anything from the 90s) 1 11.11%

CoD, FIFA, AC, GTA 2 22.22%

Indie-heaven 0 0%

Online/Streaming 2 22.22%

Mobile 2 22.22%

Total:9

Coming up to E3 I expected that there would be Oculus Rift, Project Morpheus, Vive VR and Hololens everywhere and a bit of Steam Machines.  They were at E3 but the hype was not.

Is nostalgia-gaming winning over the future? FFVII:RE, Shenmue III, Last Guardian, Rare Replay, XB1 BC, Starfox 64U get bigger headlines than anything VR or AR.

Is the future DOA?

VR is DOA. They say they can't show it because "you have to try it yourself". Meaning you can't market it. So how can you sell something that you can't market when even marketable things don't sell sometimes?

No theyre just far in the future.

Morpheus is launching next year and hololense who knows. Its not the time to start building hype.

How do you market television through radio?

HD through SD?

They'll find a way, and dont underestimate word of mouth.

I wanted to make a similar thread right now. I expected this to be THE convention for VR but nobody really stepped up to wow everyone and try to convince them that's the future. Passing notions will not convince the doubters.

Last chance is next E3 when the devices are out and the developers are hopefully able to present their killer apps. If they miss this window of opportunity, VR might as well end up like 3D.

Hololense (AR) isnt really good for gameing.... it looks good with the overview of the minecraft map... but you cant even really use it for minecraft game play.

Its going to be a flop for gameing.... however 10-15years into the future, it ll be something smart "glasses" phones have, and maybe common place on every phone.

VR is very much so ment for gameing... and its def. the future of gameing.

It just needs to launch and have some games for it.

I dunno, those mediums often have things going for them. Like famous actors or directors, big things that draw people whether they even know what it is or not. With VR these companies are chasing a similar market to the one that made the Wii a success, but names ("developers of X game", or "Halo VR", etc) isn't going to do much for them. Getting a portion of core gamers to buy it is nowhere near enough. How is the common family going to get into it?

i personally have never seen VR as the future of gaming o.O

Please make your own thread. I was struggling for more than a half hour to formulate my thread ( not wanting to insult anyone with the wrong words - also struggling with the english language). I think you would make a better thread.

Your thread is just fine. Couldn't have said it better in as few words. Also I'm not really a thread person. Mine seem to always die very fast^^
