VR is DOA. They say they can't show it because "you have to try it yourself". Meaning you can't market it. So how can you sell something that you can't market when even marketable things don't sell sometimes?

How do you market television through radio?

HD through SD?

They'll find a way, and dont underestimate word of mouth.

I dunno, those mediums often have things going for them. Like famous actors or directors, big things that draw people whether they even know what it is or not. With VR these companies are chasing a similar market to the one that made the Wii a success, but names ("developers of X game", or "Halo VR", etc) isn't going to do much for them. Getting a portion of core gamers to buy it is nowhere near enough. How is the common family going to get into it?
