It won't, the the clocks don't match, they are just not ready, the earliest we can expect ''NX'' to hit the shelves is Q2 2017 - I'm willing to bet anything.

It's a family of devices that share a common software API. Games made on that API are available on all devices (theoretically speaking). Due to Nintendo's typical hardware production history, it's safe to assume that the first entry in this family of devices will be a handheld, soon followed by a home device possibly in parallel with a more expensive home device (so people can choose). |
ok good. That is basically what I was thinking of and described previously as well.
However, my opinion is that the platform will be on mobile/handheld/home devices in 2016. Nintendo needs a new set of hardware to drive their brand and IPs. I see 2016 showcasing a new handheld and home console that share many basic architectural designs and of course a sofware structure that allows a shared library.
I do think it would also contain a software based backwards compatibility with WiiU/3DS family and finally a fully identical VC and other digital catalog. The mobile component won't be 100% identical but will be compliments and heavily linked.
... and I do agree that it will likely begin to follow a hardware cycle where new devices will come out far more regularly. MSony will do this by next hardware releases as well, IMO.

What if I told you the NX might be backwards compatible with the WiiU? The new games playable on the U, with the U integrated in the design of the new API? |
What if I add that they have not satisfied the fanbase and a random cycle time is not going to do as it's clear they are moving unto NX?

Cool, we're close to agreeing. I'll predict that the family of devices will be demoed in 2016, but only the handheld will release in Nov 2016, with the home console versions releasing in March or spring 2017. @bold. I think so too. They might just take a wait and see approach first though. |
I will respond then that it could have also many more that interest me than the limited Wii U.

And thus, the Wii U will be solidified as an abject failure. It will not be missed With Zelda definitely being an NX title, I'll be passing on the Wii U. It's obvious from this years E3 that they're pushing all of their major releases back for the NX, anyway.
Hopefully they've learned something from this whole disastrous experience.

well as you can see by my post the past day I agree with you.

I don't understand why there is a feeling the WiiUs game library is limited.
Nintendo put out quality versions of all of their IPs on WiiU with the one exception of a Zelda title.
I own 26 WiiU titles and could easily buy a few more to push me over 30 if I knew I had the time to play them. That doesn't include the few more yet to be released this year.
The WiiU has a solid library and has only missed something the past few Nintendo home consoles have also largely missed; big 3rd party games.
It has run its course and needs to be replaced. They need a new streamlined platform to bridge their content onto a single platform, open up their systems for 3rd parties, and allow a more frequent cost effective way to modernize their hardware as technology and competition changes.

Then you've missed on many amazing Nintendo and few exclusive 3rd party games. A profitable console is not an 'abject failure'. It is simply not a mass market success, but does contain an excellent experience and array of quality titles.
After seeing this e3, it's impossible to believe NX isn't coming next year, because if nintendo really does wait till 2017, they are going to have the worst financial earnings for 2016.
The only thing I'm uncertain about, is it really winning for nintendo to put out a new system on par or more powerful than xb1 and ps4? would 3rd party companies even care, considering the install base is so far ahead on the other systems?

Yeah, show me the quality Paper Mario, Fire Emblem and Metroid. And waiting for Zelda 4-5 years is stupid.
