Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo E3 shows that this is a transition year

I figure they are working on NX games as launch titles or easly games, but I don't think they've finished on the Wii U either. Ninten has been kind of weird announcing new things through out the year. Perhaps they will continue to do the same from here until the next E3. I still have a feeling NX will be released at earliest 2017.

I still say NX is a handheld that will release either winter 2016 or 2017 with the home console coming 2017 or 2018. One bad E3 doesn't mean its the end of the world. From what I saw nintendo treated E3 as a regular old gaming event/direct and not as the greatest gaming event of the year. There are going to be a lot more announcements coming for the rest of the year and I'm pretty sure nintendo still has 2-3 more titles to announce at the treehouse  like they did last year. People are over reacting. NX games are probably being worked on but you wont start to feel it until mid 2016 or late 2016. I do think nintendo needs to think about making more things cross gen when they move from gen to gen, atleast for the first 6 months.

I have to agree with you.

The lack of any kind of news of what EAD or even Retro is doing, and both those studios have had time enough to work on something and show it, speaks for itself.

Retro studios are working on a new WIIU engine, not an NX engine, lol.

If they aren't developing a WiiU game, why are they working on a new engine for it?

Rumors said that they were working on a WiiU engine, but with no game to show it, they could have changed the development of that engine for NX (because I'm going to assume that Nintendo knows what hardware will be inside), and are using it to develop a NX game.

Maybe it just wasn't ready? :|
Though I do have to say that even though this is a WiiU engine, Retro's gonna use it for future platforms (Why are people so stubborn about NX being a homeconsole? lol), just like how the Metroid Prime engine of 2002 was used for DKCTF in 2014.

I also thought that NX would be a handheld first, home console later, but after this E3 I'm not sure anymore. Nintendo didn't show any game that says "hey, I'm a BIG Nintendo game", they only showed spin-offs and games that were revealed years ago (like SMT x FE, in japanese ). Any big new project from Nintendo have been moved to NX, expect Zelda because even they know that not launching Zelda on WiiU would be too problematic.

And Retro could use the same engine of the Prime games since the GameCube to WiiU because the insides of the machines didn't differ much. The Wii was a GameCube on steroids, and WiiU in a lot of things is a Wii x3. It will be really, really hard for Nintendo to do the same thing with their next console.

Yeah, I think people are overreacting too. It was a really bad show, but it's not the end of the world. They still have a lot of good stuff coming, def. Ninten is doing a weird thing where they sprinkle new things throughout the year rather than leave it all for E3, which can be good, ot bad... ; ) As to what NX is, I'll just leave that for next year...

Nintendo "we will talk about games releasing between now and early 2016"
What did they talk about? Games releasing between now and early 2016.
All this dissapointment comes from you guys getting overhyped. "New Metroid (which they did announce ), F-Zero, AC (also announced, but that was disgustingly bad), New Pokemon" is what maaany expected. If you look at Wii U's upcoming line up, there are way too many games releasing in little time... that's because some will get delayed to 2016.
Lastly, NX will release in 2017. Announced at 2016, meaning there's no way in hell it'll release a few months after it's announced. Only chance it has to release in 2016 is if it's announced in a Direct, which sounds doubtful.
I wonder what Reggie said at the beginning of the Digital Event...

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I've been saying exactly this since two year ago. NX, both the home console and handheld, will come 2016.

Look at the XDS fake for an idea of what the handheld version will be.

Considering it's supposed to "absorb the WiiU arc" I'm afraid it'll be PowerPC again, RIP, lol.

No, it'll be announced next E3 and come out next Winter. The handheld could come even sooner, like in the Summer. But they're all releasing next year. The handheld will either be revealed in an early 2016 direct, or in an investors meeting.

There's no reason to artificially wait a year after the reveal. PS4 didn't XBO didn't. Announced and released the same year. Same will happen with the NX platforms.

I can't see why Nintendo couldn't make a more 'smooth' transition like they've done before with previous launched consoles.

This E3 made it looked like they just stopped giving a f**k about their current systems.
