Forums - Sony - the appeal of ff 7 remake and tlg?

Final Fantasy 7 is what made the franchise so popular (being the first RPG for lots of people), one of the games that made the PS1 such a good seller and one of the most praised games by fans and critics

More than 10 million sold and 92 on metacritic says a lot, its not hard to see why lots of people still love it and why a AAA remake makes people excited

On the last guardian, Team Ico has a great track of critically acclaimed games. Even if they are not so popular, fans expect it to be on a similar quality level.

That first point doesn't even make any sense. Was the Resident Evil 1 remake not a real remake because it wasn't on playstation?

RESIDENT EVIL is not atall a PLAYSTATION franchise

RESIDENT EVIL 4 was TIMED exclusive to Gamecube

METAL GEAR sells almost entirely on PLAYSTATION Consoles and its make HIDEO KOJIMA is total SONY and PLAYSTATION fnaboy and has tried to stop it from coming on XBOX and PC

Hideo Kojima also has fought with his parent company KONAMI on this issue

I get some of the hype. I just don't get the ridiculous amount of hype around these games. I don't recall Alan wake having half the amount of hype that TLG got and remedy are equally as great of a studio as ICO and both games went through a period of limbo.

Nice try, but no they're not.

You are seriously going to argue that a studio that has not worked on anything new for over a decade is better than Remedy? Max payne is just as good as ICO and SOC.

This.

I imagine that ff7 would sell decently well if priced appropriately (ha!)

TLG is going to flop (hard) if it ever releases. Forum dwellers seem to think its the messiah though

Flopping hard? you mean at sales numbers or profit? Nobody thinks TLG is the Messiah or does it bother you that much when people are geniuenly excited about a game from a developer or a franchise they like?

Not that sales matter to me, a consumer, but how many copies do you reckon FF7 Remake and TLG will sell if both see a critical acclaim?

if you ask me FINAL FANTASY 7 will easily sell 10million

SONY will market the hell out of it and SQUARE ENIX will leave no stone unturned as FINAL FANTASY 7 with FINAL FANTASY 15 will bring them back as a company

FINAL FNATASY 7 is not just a REMAKE but they will add alot of gameplay and extra story to it and it will be big, expecially in JAPAN.

FINAL FANTASY low end estimate - 7million

FINAL FANTASY high end estimate - 15-20million

there are ( ofcourse ) rumors and speculations about a ff 7 remake and a (re)reveal of tlg. I dont get the hype for these games.

FF 7 was a good rpg, but come on, why do so many people want a remake? Is it for nostalgia reasons or is it for the ''groundbreaking'' gameplay?

Further more tlg. It's from the team that gave us ICO and Shadow of the colossus. Ico was ok ( beautiful to look at ) but gameplay wise it was ok. SOTC was a good game but nothing to be too excited about. Maybe it's just me, no problem, but TLG is for some reason a second coming of christ. Why?

This isn't a troll thread. I am genuinly interested.

FFVII is highest selling in series by like 3 to 4 million. It is kinda the spokesman for the new era of games ushered by the ps1. Everyonevwas content until SE teased the fanbase with the FFVII tech demo for ps3. Thats when it turned rabid. The game has huge sales potential not onky because of pedigree but sheer hype surrounding it. One of the things that drives cod, elder scrolls, etc sales is the "lets see what all the hype is about" factor for noobs. Whether everyone will actually like it is a different question.I personally find it to b one of the highest groundbreaking games ever, hence the name.... Cross dressing, eco terrorism, big evil corporations, 6degrees of separation, mini games out the ass, the pressures of perfection, graceful death, religous obsession.....this game has it all.

15-20mil might be too much but it could sell over 10 million if it's loved by critics and gamers.

yeah i know

i think it will be around 12-13million lifetime

but if marketing extensive and become as console seller and getting perfect reviews,it could easily be over 15million and closing 20million

Having not released anything in a long time is kind of irrelevant. From an objective standpoint, Max Payne isn't in the same league as timeless classics like ICO or SoTC. Remedy's games don't have the passionate followers of ICO/SoTC, they hardly influneced anything, they didn't get nearly as many awards and weren't as well received, and you don't often see them listed in someone's top favorite games of all time.

As far as critical reception, awards, and influence go.. Team ICO's games are of top quality. Remedy's simply aren't.

Trying to push your opinion as fact is fine. Throwing in "facts" that are entirely wrong is not. Max Payne won a substantial amount of awards when it was released, substantially more than ICO and more comparable with SOTC and it had an extremely hardcore following up until Max Payne 3 was released. They weren't as well received? Are we really going to argue over 1-2 points on meta as to why ICO is a better studio? True, I don't see many people list the games in their favourite games of all time and there isn't that same hardcore following as there once was but downplaying it like this is insulting. I very rarely see ICO or SOTC listed in anyone's top 5 either.

This is a pointless argument anyway. If you don't think the original Max Payne games are of top quality then you're just showing clear bias but I guess we will know more when TLG releases.  I stand by my point that Remedy are just as good if not a better studio than Team ICO. Taking over a decade to release a game after their last is not exactly the definition of a world class studio even if there last two games were very good.

If QB releases in 2016 Remedy will have gone 13 years with only one game released.. Alan wake came out 7 years after MP2, and might I add that the final product was nothing like what they had promised/sold early on, having cut and trimmed so much, while TLG looks to be exactly what it always was.

FF7 is just a widely appealing game, it was also really atmospheric which I hope they don't screw up. It also had a sprawling, unique world that a lot of people seem to remember.

ICO was fantastic all around, one of the best of that generation, I love that game and hope TLG is like that. I never cared for SOTC.

Both make more sense than being excited over Shenmue (which I loved back in 2000, but 15 years later it really isn't much of a game series. It was impressive in the pre-GTA3 days though), Halo 5 or more Gears of War.... in general what a damn boring E3.
