Forums - Gaming - PS3 V XBox 360. What console should you buy?

Well i had a similar problem today on the forums and i decided to get a PS3, but personal choice really. The PS3 seemed more rounded console of the two, it games libary wasn't as FPS orientated and it's a reliable console, plus free online. (YES I KNOW THAT SOUNDS CHEAP, BIT SHORT OF CASH RIGHT NOW)

Around the Network

I went with ps3 over 360 because of blu-ray and that ps3 would have more games i like to play compared to 360 in the long run.plus i also chose it because of ps3 being graphically superior to xbox 360. also I chose it because ps3 is a better multimedia hub.
mine has replaced the dvd player the stereo and when the pc is being used by someone else i can just connect my wireless keyboard and mouse and use the ps3's web browser. plus when play tv comes out for playstation 3 (digital tv tuner and recorder for ps3) we will be able to record tv programs to ps3's hard
drive and watch them on the ps3. Thats the day i will be selling off my dvd recorder.

MGS4 is the greatest game ever

The ignorance in some of your posts is disheartening sometimes, krik. Thats like saying, "Unless you're interested in MGS or FF, there's no reason to get a PS3" , cause both of those statements are foolish.

I suspect you referring to this "actually I wonder why would anyone buy a 360 unless you really want to play Halo or Gears of War?

It's a very elegant way of calling me stupid. At least it seems you respect me a little bit to be so delicate about offending my feeling but don't worry, you can't offend me. Anyway I'm referring to getting one versus the other, not when you can get both. Also, MGS/FF are amazing reasons to get a PS3, so don't call it "foolish". I know a lot of people that will buy a PS3 to play MGS4 (and/or FF). Also, we know the sales boost the 360 got from Halo 3 and I almost got a 360 just to play Gears of War. So don't call it stupid or foolish. MGS, FF, Halo and GeoW are good enough reasons to buy a console.

Anyway you come to this thread with no information at all, you just commented on my "stupid" remark about GeoW/Halo 3. Did you read the other part of my comment? What do you have to say about:

"Better (non-FPS) games, more reliable, better value for money, no online fees (MS sucks, why can't I play a non-MS game online without having to pay MS???? WTF???)"

Even better, what do you about this thread's topic? Can you please enlighten us with your knowledge and tell me why should I get a 360 instead of a PS3 or vice versa?

Optimistic predictions for 2008 (Feb 5 2008): Wii = 20M, PS3 = 14M, X360 = 9.5M

Why not buy them both?

I got the PS3 as a gift this past X-mas, but I would've picked it over the Xbox 360 anyway and have wanted one since it's release. Before the PS3, I wasn't much of a gamer; I epitomized the concept of "casual gamer". From a POV of a person who doesn't know the industry inside and out (but still had a little bit of knowledge), I liked the PS3 over the Xbox 360 because:

1) Current games - I really wasn't really attracted to the 360's games. There seems to be a lot of focus on FPS, but that's never interested me all that much (though I did at one point want to get an Xbox Halo edition because it looked really cool). It just seemed the PS3 just had more games that attracted me...such as Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy.

2) Back library - I had the PS1 and PS2 before getting the PS3, so I know there was a library of games that I could use due to BC.

3) Brand knowledge - Like I said, I wasn't too much of a gamer, so I go with what I know. And what I know of is Nintendo and Sony. I've never had trouble with Sony or Nintendo consoles, so that added to my desire to go with them.

4) Build quality - I had heard a lot about the RRoD, and that pulled me back on the Xbox.

5) Blu Ray

6) Wireless - I heard that the PS3 was could has wireless online connection, so that sealed it for me.

7) It didn't influence my desire for a PS3, but free online is bonus.

Good luck on your decision. There are many happy PS3 owners and many 360 owners, so chances are you'll be happy with your decision no matter what. But chances also are you'll get both eventually.

Hi, congrats on (what I assume) is your first thread!

Important question for me, because I'm still undecided. I'm a big Resident Evil fan, so I must buy one of them (and I don't have enough time to have 3 consoles) when RE5 comes out.

Exclusive games is the single most important factor in this decision.

I'm very much leaning towards 360 at this moment, but I'm a big RPG fan, and FF13 seems to become very good.
But like I sad, I'm a very big RPG fan and 360 has the best ones at this moment.

Exclusives per console I want to play:

360:
Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssee
BioShock
Gears of War
Mass Effect
Tales of Vesperia
Fable 2
Alan wake
Splinter Cell: Conviction

PS3
FF13
FF Versus 13
White Knight Chronicles
Eight Days

Looks like a no brainer towards 360, but hey... it's Final Fantasy we're talking about.

Why do you include some shooters on the 360 list and not on the PS3?

Also, it seems you're not interested in playing MGS4, GT5, LittleBigPlannet or Resistance 2 :(  They should all be great games, totally worth playing. Probably the 4 top games of 2008 ;)

Krik:

Well, because I don't see an interesting shooter on PS3. I don't really like shooters, but Gears and BioShock have so much hype that I'd really like to try. If Killzone 2 gets that kind of hype (after release that is) I'd want to play it as well. I've played Resistance and it's not my kind of game, I don't have Halo 3 on that list for the same reason. Too generic.

I was really dissapointed in MGS3, that's why 4 is not on the list, I just lost my interest in the story. But if MGS4 turns out to be really good it counts as a system seller for me. I don't really have a clue what LBP will be about, but it looks cool and I definitely keep my eyes on it.

Some games just give you the feeling that you want to play it before you know a lot of them. I have that with Eight Days and Alan Wake. And most top-tier RPG's.

I HATE racing games. I don't have any doubt that GT5 will be an amazing game, but the only racing game I'll ever touch again is Mario Kart.

But yeah, my main problem with PS3 is that it might take another 2 years before FF13 is here in Europe and that the JRPG's are starting to change system. Most will come to Wii, which I have, but if Vesperia is close to Symphonia it will be a marvelous game, LO and BD are supposed to great also. Since I loved PS2 and Final Fantasy I'm somewhat inclined to wait for the PS3 to prove itself, but they sure take their time to do that.

As for your top 4 games of 2008: I guess you missed a little fighting game that was released last sunday.

I bought a 360 mostly because Sony hadn't delivered any first party game I wanted and the only exclusive worth it for me was Virtua Fighter 5. I bought the 360 the second I found out VF5 was coming to 360, with online to boot. EA and Ubisoft's innabilities to develop correctly for PS3 forced my hand also, because I'm a fan of their games and don't want to have to suffer.  Considering that Madden was amongst the worst culprit, that was a deal breaker for me because I need my Madden. It also had a more varied lineup of first and third party games. All in all, games were the deciding factor.

Buy Resistance 1 or wait for Resistance 2?

I would say wait a month or so before the release of Resistance 2 when R1 drops in price and pick that up first. I believe the storyline is a continuation of the first one. For a FPS the storyline is pretty good too so you can't go wrong.

As for the TC's question. I would say to pick up the system that has the most games currently and upcoming that suites your gaming style. I would have never picked up a 360, but I am an RPG guy and 360 has a pretty solid lineup thus far and I just can't say no to Uematsu. PS3 has a solid lineup on the way too so I personally feel I made the right choice in going for both.

If you enjoy the console you have and the games on it, it shouldn't matter which you pick up right? I feel no need to try and justify your pickup as mine were justified the day I purchased them. :)
