Donkey Kong Land 3D or Diddy Kong Land for the 3DS would make a lot of sense to be honest. I don't think Nintendo was happy with DKC's sales potential squandered on the Wii U, they probably figure they can get 1-2 million+ out of an original DKC on the 3DS. Yeah I could see that. 3DS needs more games too, you guys just assume everything is a Wii U game. |
I highly doubt that Retro is making 3DS game.
Some Retro informations from last year
Nintendo Producer Kensuke Tanabe, who oversees the Nintendo owned American company, has stated in an interview with Gamespot that the Metroid Prime developer has been hard at work on a brand new game for the last six months.
Tanabe wouldn’t confirm what the new game was, but other interviews with Nintendo officials, like this one from Official Nintendo Magazine, are suggesting a long overdue return to the Metroid series. After Team Ninja turned in a mediocre run on Metroid: Other M, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto seems to have realized just how important Retro Studio is to the beloved franchises future.
“Certainly the Metroid franchise is one that, when you talk about really bringing the world to life, we feel that Metroid and the characters established are really important for Nintendo,” Miyamoto claims.
“I definitely think it’s a franchise that we value and we certainly want to see what we can do with it in the future. And, obviously, Retro is a very high priority in terms of the potential team that would be considered for working on a Metroid game.”

We know that Retro Studios is hard at work on their next project since releasing the fantastic Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. We knew that much since February last year. However, Liam Robertson from Unseen64 has tweeted that after doing a bit of digging it turns out that their next game for Wii U will be using a brand new engine. It’s unlikely they would be using a new engine if it was another game in the Donkey Kong Country line. New Metroid anyone?

With PwrlvlAmy's Donkey Kong Land find and the fact that there already is a Donkey Kong on WiiU, makes me think of 'Donkey Kong 3D Land' for, obviously, 3DS... Sort of like what Soundwave came up with. A reimagining of classic DKC (well, L) like Mario 3D Land was. I could see this happening.
That would mean though, because it's a low(er)-profile game, that they would also have something else I think. Wasn't it confirmed they expanded to multiple dev teams some time ago?

It's not Metroid Wii U guys, you need to stop expecting this at every E3 only to be disappointed year after year.

Few more days. :)

It might be Donkey prime.
Mmh, the pic posted about Donkey Kong Land is from a fansite and was never used officially by Retro Studios. Means nothing.

As amazing as Tropical Freeze was, and as much as I trust Retro to make just about anything awesome, making them create the same kind of games as EAD proper is wasteful and foolish when they've proven themselves capable of delivering much more ambitious experiences the likes of which are far more popular these days than cartoon games. |
Retro studios decided on their own to develop donkey kong tropical freeze.
