Forums - Nintendo - Rodea the Sky Soldier delayed to October | UPDATE: E3 Gameplay

One months delay isn't that bad. I can wait. V_V

Won't be a release day buy for me since I don't own either of the platforms, but I'll definitely pick this up down the line.

It's weird though.  When it was announced I felt this was a really big get for NISA - first time working on Nintendo platforms in a while; spiritual successor to Nights; colourful game which seems to mesh well with Nintendo platforms demographics.

But there seem to be no hype around it.  Went down like a lead balloon in Japan and doesn't look to be doing any better in the west.

I think the problem is its visuals. It just doesn't look like a Gen 8 game. Hell, it doesn't even look like a Gen 7 game. It's also very niche in terms of gameplay. And I don't believe localized footage has been shown yet.

Depending on reviews/impressions, I might pick it up sometime down the line but personally, it's not a priority. Although I may decide to get a first-print run for the rarity of it alone.

will check if it suit my taste. if it is a $60 for WiiU, Wii and 3Ds then it is a great price.

Not really. Looks like a poorman's Gravity Rush to be honest.

I was looking forward to this. I wasn't looking forward to shelliing out $60 for it.

I can kind of understand niche gameplay comment. It's not so much niche as barely explored as a gameplay idea - when it has been explored before (Nights; Gravity Rush) it's at least been well-regarded among the people who enjoyed it.

Lack of localized gameplay?  I mean, this title looks like there's barely anything to localize.  It's not a menu or stat-drive title really.  You can get more than enough of an idea of what it's about from what's out there.

And visuals is where I'm going to have to cause a bit of a kerfuffle with some generalizations.  I mean, yes, it's an up-rezzed 3DS game and it looks like it.  But it's releasing to a fanbase where I've seen multiple requests for things like Luigi's Mansion 2 HD and Kid Icarus Uprising HD.  There seems to be some hype around Devil's Third, too, which looks like an early-seventh-gen game :P

The one thing I can understand about it is that it doesn't look like a full price release.  But it's something I've learnt over the past year or two where I've started working more hours and having less free time, that I can't really value games based on production values and length.  If anything I'd say I prefer titles with a lower budget these days because they spend more time focusing on doing a couple of things well rather than the mess that AAA has become these days where every title has to do a bit of everything.

I can sort of see a few things going against Rodea to keep people from buying it, but in my own personal view - if this was coming to a platform I owned I'd already have pre-ordered it by now because I think it looks unique and a lot of fun.  Graphics be damned.  As it is, I don't know whether I'll be getting a WiiU or 3DS first so haven't ordered it yet, but I will be doing soon enough.

:( Bummer, though I'll just pick it up in Oct then.

I mean, yeah, it's just not a concept that many people have experienced, so in that sense it's kind of hard to get excited for something that you have no idea if you'll like it or not.

And even watching the gameplay we have now, I still don't really get how the game works. I think localized footage would explain it better for me, which would be able to increase my personal hype.

I don't think I've ever seen hype for straight up up-rezzed 3DS games. Yeah, I would really like for those games to be completely redone for the Wii U, but I don't want them to just be done in the same vein of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. And Devil's Third still looks better than Rodea, and that game doesn't even have that much hype, even in spite of the fact that it's a much more familiar genre.

The price is also an issue, but I have a feeling that will go down not long after launch (if enough copies are produced, that is) so it's not too big of a deal imo.

Honestly, I think it looks unique and fun too. I'm not saying all of these things are problems specifically for me (especially visuals, as that's not my first priority) but I think some of these things prevent other people from getting particularly hyped. I also recommend getting the Wii U version as the first-print run comes with the Wii version (although the 3DS version comes with the soundtrack, so it really depends on what you want).

That's too bad. But it's just a month. I like what I see from it
