No one would buy it because everyone would just play Nintendo games on their PCs.

Is their any way they could keep their own games exclusive to their own Steam machine? Or would Valve not allow that?

What if they sold their own games through a different store?

Dude, this is the exact same thread I had 6 months ago. I suggested having the Nintendo games locked to an app that could only be put on their steam machine and steam also opens in an app.

Not sure where did you get there - SteamOS/Linux library is laughable compared to full Steam Store and most AAA titles are not there.

Yeah but isn't that because it's still in beta fase? Steam boxes lauch in November. I thought eventually every game sold on Steam will work under SteamOS?

Unless publishers release those versions, I don't see how they will work on SteamOS - Steam Store (on PC) is just a front for buying games with built in DRM that work on Windows platform even without Steam. SteamOS is Linux, so devs need to make separate versions for that.

It wouldn't do very well because people would just play the games on PC...

I thought Valve was aiming at getting the entire Library working on SteamOS. Guess not. However i think that for future games they might be able to get most if not all big games to release for Linux aswell. Especially if Valve themselves push SteamOS with something like Half Life 3.

That would mean Nintendo would get much more third party support than they have now.

Yeah, they simply can't have entire Steam library, devs would have to go back and make Linux versions of all those titles - and that will never happen. But, as for the future releases it's probably reasonable to assume that lot, if not most, of them will have SteamOS ports as well.

It will be interesting to watch what will happen with SteamOS and how agressive MS will be with their future PC strategy - let's not forget that SteamOS exists only because GabeN is afraid that MS will eventually force them out (all his bullshit about evil Windows and how he's protecting PC gamers is just that - bullshit) - and I think that's exactly what will happen.

I`m not really keen on that idea, especially if all their games would be digital. And I`m sure how it would work for Ninten and steam to work together... I don`t think it would help them anyways. Other companies already have their own services, like Origin and whatever Uplay is.

I don`t get why people still act like it`s over for Ninten and the console business. They did really well last gen, and they goofed this gen. They can always make things better next time.

Yeah it's going to take a lot of effort to make SteamOS a succes. But if anyone can pull it off it's Valve. To be honest the only reason i always use Windows is because of the games.

But since Valve can use all the help maybe a dual boot on Nintendo's next system could be an option? I don't really see Nintendo winning back any kind of serious third party support without a move like that. They could keep their own games exclusive to their system that way and even keep disc based games if they wanted to. And that way atleast you can play the games you buy on Steam on any future PC or system that supports it.

If Nintendo released a Steam machine, they would find a way to make it underpowered...

It is near the end of the end....
