Last two episodes were spectacular, really coming together near the end of the season, which is true for most seasons thus far.

Not what he said, but ok. It is true that SJW's were up in arms over the Sansa scene, it is also true that many of the books purists are not liking the changes that are being made. One complaint is stupid, for a medium you have to not only choose to watch, but pay to have access to that channel. The second, I can completely sympathize with, having watched several botch jobs of books/series/comics etc.. butchered. Plot-wise.

I love the "stop whining and love this fantastic show" comments. I could say "stop enjoying this sh*tty show and complain about it" with the same arguments. You know, opinions...
But hey, we're on a forum, it's not like if we could have our own opinions and talk about it! How dare we dislike the adaptation of a book we love... It is known that everyone here love all video games for example, and nobody ever complained about a single game on VGchartz.
As a massive fan of the books I still remember back to when the show coming together and the excitement around the pilot mixed with a huge amount of "they're going to ruin our beloved books!"
Now, obviously things changed, the world is much smaller, the story lines less complex, and characters aged up. These are often logistical issues, like how the direwolves and dragons are expensive so get minimal screen time.
That said, season 1 was as close to perfect as I could have hoped, but that book was also probably the easiest to adapt. The world is incredibly complex and deep, take it from someone who knows far too much about Westeros' history and politics.
I knew things would be altered and cut, but it is still jarring how much this year has diverted from the source material. I guess Aegon simply does not exist and the Citadel and Iron Islands are of little note. Fine, I make my peace that scenes and characters I liked will never see the screen (Coldhands and Lady Stoneheart already had this happen).
What I've noticed is the show caused the fan base to explode to 100x what it was a decade ago and many of those folks read the books and now have their expectations. So, while I heard mild grumbles about completely changing Loras characterization in season 3, the changes to Sansa in season 5 have created far more outrage.
The little things annoy me more because they don't come down to timing, logistics or budgeting. I will never understand removing Tysha and "where ever whores go" from the show and this season I really don't get how Dorne went from an arid desert place to looking a lot like much of the rest of southern Westeros.
My point is I still have the books, and hopefully books 6 & 7 do come out in the next decade so I can finally see it finish. The television show is its own creation, especially now with all the changes. I still love it as I fell in love with this world and characters all those years ago. I know some think it is awful or a betrayal, but seeing other adaptations (Earthsea anyone?!) I know that it is hard to see this being done much better, but easily could have been far far worse.

well considering how idiotic some of the complaints are such as there is not enough politics even though this season has had just as much politics as other seasons orthey just kill people and I don't like when people die because as we all know no one has ever died during a war. And then there is the book readers who have a bitch fit whenever a change occurs even the author himself is not only ok with the changes but actively defends them. If you don't like the show that's an opinion and that's fine but the thing is it is a great show not perfect, it is ok not to like things that are great. There are plenty of things that I don't like but I can still say admit that they are fantastic but they just aren't for me, people are just so ignorant with there opinions and try and force them down everyone's throats
sorry about how messy this is I'm.on my phone and its hard to use this site on it

Don't worry, I'm on a phone too ^^.
About the lack of politics, which is maybe my main complaint about this season. In the books, we have a lot of "political wars" : in Dorne amongst the Martell family, in King's Landing between Cersei, Margaery and Kevan, in Castle Black around Jon Snow, in Meereen between Daenerys and the slavers (inside AND outside), in the Greyjoy family, in the east between the former King of the North's allies with Jaime, etc... And on a larger scale, we have Aegon and other possible alliances who don't exist in the show. Each one of them is a lot more detailed than what we see in the show.
So for me, this season is violently lacking in political fights, and it was the major strength of the show back in the first season...
I'm so glad everyone is mad and outraged by Sansas wedding night! My wedding nightg was totally great and I REALLY wanted it!!!
I didn't read the books so there's no expectations from me. But I do expect an army of soldiers that did nothing else than fight their whole life would have a bit of coordination, plan or automatism in fights. I mean, those Unsullied appear like weaklings versus the masked whatevers, both when Bariston dies and in the last episode.
Other than that, pretty great.

That was an unnecessary change as well. I watched the show before reading the books, but in the show I never really could understand why Daenerys fell in love with Drogo. That is until I read the books and saw that she actually gave consent and their relationship was more fleshed out.

And as far as the "right" to the throne, Stannis has no real claim to it. No one does. It was by its nature a throne taken by force. If the initial taking of it has merrit then it's Dany's now. Robert had no legitimate claim to the throne, so if Robert's rebelian has merrit, then really it just belongs to whoever has the military will and ability to take it and there should be no such inheritance given to Stannis. And as such it belongs to Tomlin until someone knocks him off it. And as far as Stannis being the best choice to lead and to protect Westeros from the Others, meh. Not really. He was beaten soundly by the Lannisters in combat and lacks charisma to inspire his followers. Tyrion, Jon, and Dany have shown varrying degrees of leadership, character and sound values to be suitable leaders. Tywin was a fantastic leader while missing the good values part. Stannis has been mostly desperate and flawed. Also, he's going to burn his daughter in the books, too, it just hasn't happened yet. |
That is total speculation you don't know this, and there is no way GRRM is going to spoil that sort of event. And even if Shireen burns it's probably not going to be Stannis' decree or by his hand. Stannis is stuck in the deep snow still trying to take Winterfell. Shireen is at the Wall with Mel and Selyse.
And Dany burns a healer of the sheep people who seeks justice for the slaugher, rape and enslavement of her people. But I most people seem to think Dany is cool. In the context of the consequences for betraying your king burning as a form of execution is a method on a continuum of cruelty. So far in the books Stannis has never burned anyone who has not wronged him (or the realm) in some way. He wanted to burn Edric and Mance's baby who are the innocents he could have burned but that was prevented, and wanting and doing are different things.
