Forums - Gaming - DLC as an offset to higher gaming development costs?

I think they should raise prices in the US because i get the feeling the rest of us are paying more for games to make up for it.

New games for ps4 and x1 go for 70 euros here in the Netherlands, i'm pretty sure that in Portugal where things are worse they may be going for 80 euros. So, yeah... either lower those prices in europe to make it fair or raise them in the US.

Either way, DLC has nothing to do with this and on-disc is despicable. Its also terrible how they remove chunks of the game to sell later as DLC. Mortal Kombat X beeing a recent example. For me, it had the opposite effect, because now i dont feel like buying any DLC at all nor play the game anymore.

Burnout Paradise DLC is still to me, a golden example of dlc done right.

At least inMK's case, the characters weren't completed..  Except for Goro...

, I didn't even bother trying to argue that supporting that was only showing companies it's okay to lock a bunch of stuff in the game (like the old days) and charge 20 dollars to unlock it all. Reasoning and logic isn't a strong suit of his... And, I can't figure out why that is.

Just stubborn as hell.

You sound like the stubborn one tbqh.

The game has unlocks in a manner many 'gamer' gamers want, but there are just as many ppl who could care less about having to go through all of that, or do not have the time to invest in it that they are willing to pay to unlock it. At the end of the day , it is a CHOICE that is made. Just because devs offer you the chance to get things quicker is something I do not understand ppl scoffing at. Does your enjoyment of the game change because your friend decided to use his money to get things quicker?

Of course not.

If the issue here was  that the content was locked away and the only way you could access it was paying extra for it (aka Splatoon) then sure you can be angry. Because paying for that shows companies that keep content on disc behind a paywall is acceptable., when it should not be.

But being upset that there is an option to unlock unlockable items in a game faster? You have better things to to dislike man.

It's $20 dollars, and we both have the limited edition which cost $100 dollars by the time to you factor in tax.  It's his money, but people buying $20 dollar unlocks shows that it's okay for companies to do it again.  It's an unlock for goodness sake.  There's no reason for those things to be more than 5 bucks.

Then, easy fatality tokens, which makes fatalities doable with 3 button presses.  Costume packs, characters, etc.  Sure, DLC is needed to offset the game's costs.  I get that, but there becomes a point in time where it's crossing the line.
