1. MARKET THIS CONSOLE!!!

Definitely

2. Focus on core gamers!

I find this arguement rather foolish. I agree Nintendo need to make more core games but I consider games like Fifa, Call of Duty, Ass Creed, etc extremely casual and they all sell well still.

3. Try to hold out till 2017.

Agree, the next console should not be earlier than 2017, just keep making more Wii U games to help prepare them for even better hardware.

4. Don't make it too expensive!

I think the Wii U was pricey due to the inclusion of the tablet, so if they dont make it as gimmicky it shouldnt be as expensive. No matter what it is I just typically wait for a price drop or a sale.

5. Don't try to confuse the consumer.

Just dont call it Wii and everything 'should' be fine.

6. Use PC like hardware.

I think Nintendo did try with the Wii U but they still have the notion in the back of their minds that creating odd hardware means it will be harder to hack.

7. Offer backwards compatibility with the Wii U.

This is another concept that bugs me. Making it backwards compatible with the Wii U is a plus they should have update the virtual console more often and make it bigger. The problem with Nintendo is that in generations to come to play their old games on the virtual console will require the purchasing of Wii motes or gamepads and this will annoy people.

Other than that they should:

Try and bring back 3rd party devs (like what Microsoft is doing with timed exclusives or Sony with console exclusive content).

Launch with must have games.

Create more variety of games to targer other audiences.

The problem Nintendo would have with making a "me too" console next to the PS4/XB1 is the so-called "core gamers" (or some say casual-core who like COD/FIFA/Madden/Destiny etc.) would look at the Nintendo offering and see a flood of Disney-styled cartoony games on it from Nintendo and deem it inferior to the Playstation or XBox sitting next to it with the same third party games only with Uncharted, Halo, Last of Us, Gran Turismo, Forza, Gears of War, etc.

So that's kind of the problem with this whole line of thinking. Nintendo fans assume non-Nintendo fans like Nintendo franchises just as much as they do, and that's not the case.

The only way Nintendo could maybe work that is if they had a 2 year headstart or so (yes, Nintendo needs 2 years, 1 year clearly doesn't cut it) with a much more powerful console, then maybe they could get 2nd place vs. Sony and push MS to third.

But that's about it.

If they want 2 years, they need to launch no later than holiday 2016.

I just don't think they can compete with Sony either.

They haven't been competetive with Sony for 20 years now in the console space, the only time was with the Wii and that was predicated on getting non-gamers to buy into a controller fad, not so much competing directly. Even there, with Sony doing virtually everything wrong to begin with ($600 launch) and Nintendo getting the benefit of almost everything going their way that gen, the PS3 is going to end up with 90-100 million units sold through, pretty much the same as the Wii.

Every other generation Sony has absolutely dominated Nintendo. I just don't think Nintendo has it in them to fight. Yeah, it's great that their core fanbase still has a lot of fight in them, but Nintendo themselves doesn't like competetion, Iwata even said it flat out, which was a little strange for a company to say, but it is basically true.
