Forums - PC - Finally getting back into PC gaming

So I had some extra cash for this time of year and figured it was time I get myself a decent PC. My current one is a very old build from 2007. lol  It’s horrible and on it’s last legs so time for it to go.

I didn’t want to go to crazy but I also wanted something that would run today’s games with decent fps. I’m not looking to run anything on ultra settings.

A friend of mine upgraded his PC recently as well so he gave me his 24-inch HD monitor from last year. So I just ordered a rig with an I7 4790 4.0 GHz, 16 GB DDR3 ram, GeForce GTX 970 4GB GDDR5, 256 SSD drive with 2TB SATA HD etc.

So I’m hoping to have decent gaming experiences with this rig. Now I’ll have a PS Vita/PS4/PC combo for this gen’s gaming.  :)

Nice rig.

Nice! Expect 1080p 60fps gameplay as a standard with that rig. A lot of games should run on ultra, and the ones that don't will run on high/ultra. The Witcher 3 for example averages around 56 fps Ultra 1080p with a 970, and if you unselect Nvidia Hairworks you can easily get a solid 60 fps with a few dips. You could also play the game at 1440p at 30fps (or unlocked >30 fps) with your card. Make sure you try Pillars of Eternity if you like Role-Playing games, it is a great CRPG exclusive and one of the best games released this year.

Thanks for the info!  Yeah I'm definitely getting Pillars once this rig comes in. It also comes with a code for a free download copy of Batman Arkham Knight which is pretty sweet. I was gonna get Witcher 3 as well on PC but my g/f just bought it for me on PS4 this past Thursday for a bday gift. Awe well, free game is a free game. :)

We need a steam exchange account thread or is their one?

Hey, nothing beats a free game. The console versions are pretty decent anyway, so the experience shouldn't be that different. Also your CPU is excellent for emulation (high IPC & clock speed) so if there are any Wii, PS2, PSP, DS games that you missed and would like to play I definitely recommend you look into that. It will diversify your gaming library on PC.

Those are actually really good specs! 1080p gaming should be a breeze with a 970, most games will run on ultra with decent FPS, some with great.

Ahh yes, good point! There are a ton of JRPG's that I never got to finish on the older systems that I would love to go back to, especially the Tales games on the PS2.

That's some really sweet equipment, welcome back mate

Thanks guys, super pumped for this! Now the anticipation wait to get it shipped and delivered is gonna be killer. lol
