well they just have to make it 60fps or 4k not better looking

Then what is the point?

to give people a choice

No, it would also probably cost more than $700 if they indeed go ahead with this.

No because by then PC would have 4k under wraps and will be more stable with gains, I'd rather a cheaper 4k 60fps option and PC will be that choice.

i doubt it would be cheaper because Sony would mass manufactoring it, at least 3 million

a lot of the manufactering cost in the PS4 goes also to the Dual Shock 4, Motehrboard, Plastic case, Hardrive and Power Supply. These components have to barley change or improved. 300$ more can buy you a lot more once you have the 400$ allready established.

The APU from AMD cost 100$ to produce on the PS4, ad another 100$ and you could easily render 4K.

For the PS4, iSuppli estimates that the APU was slightly cheaper ($100), but the GDDR5 RAM cost a lot more ($88). The hard drive ($37), controller ($18), and various other bits bring the total build cost of the PS4 to $381.

No way Sony can build it and not sell it at a massive loss. PC gaming doesn't even have a single 4K graphics card yet. And the nearest one would be AMD and that needs to be liquid cooled. The technology just isn't ready for that in a console yet. The size of the console would be massive.

No! For starters it'll be more in the range of 1500$ (4k is more expensive then you think). Also developers aren't going to develop for 2 platforms that are the same except for hardware. So no, bad idea. Also very few would buy it. It would cost similar to a PC, and in that case I'd just build a PC.

There is no way it would be in the $1500 range. 4k is not as expensive as you think. Espicially if the aim is just 30fps.

No. Now, a hardware BC PS4 model for $700? Yeah.

With other technology providers already settings the trends I'd imagine it would be, 1080p yonks back was expensive when it first started out and now it's cheaper, 4k is already beginning with tv's and PC's and it will get cheaper as time progresses, Sony isn't the only corp in the world that magically makes whatever they want cheaper factually than everything else, that's just not how technology or mass markets work.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

If there is no one to take full advantage of that power then why have it? We dont need 4k to have a consistent 1080P/60FPS, just better optimzation.

Probably not. Only if I found some way to sell off my old PS4 efficiently and the new one was $400 or under.
