What's to elaborate on? Square's Final Fantasy games are but a mere shadow of their former excellence.

Right, I mean that's definitely true for the XIII Saga but what do you want them to go back to, that you feel they are not trying with XV? Turn-based combat?

Yep, definitely turn based combat. Not just that though, they should focus on a lot of other things too. A big part of the reason a lot of the older Final Fantasy games are remembered so well is the cool mini games like the card game in 8/9. That was a lot of fun to play, and if I remember correctly they even brought it back for their mmo. They should definitely have plenty of things like that to do outside of the main storyline. Another factor is the ridiculous amount of time they are taking, at one point there was only 1-2 years between games and each still had so much content.

Well the turn based thing is something that can probably be argued for days, I'm personally of the opinion that it's good that they're moving away from it and going towards a real time approach. Regarding the side content and minigames it's too early to really tell how much of that stuff will be in the final game, I believe I even read some speculations that there might be a new card game in FFXV (fingers crossed, Triple Triad was awesome in VIII).
And yeah the development time is just unfortunate, I'm not going to defend XVs dev cycle cause that is just ridiculous, but 1-2 years for a new mainline game really can't be expected from the Final Fantasy series anymore, not with them (and that's something we have to give props for) trying to create completely new worlds, somewhat reinvent the system and always push for some of the best graphics out there for every mainline title.
