Forums - Gaming - Why the Witcher 3 was actually downgraded.

TL;DR

Both PS4 and XOne's hardware suck and couldn't handle the beast. Anyway on PC with sweetFX is probably the best looking game i've seen so even with the downgrade still the beast they promised.

While the PS4 and X1 are obviously less powerful than many developers had hoped for (and it makes me sad to see a game not meeting its technical targets, for whatever reason), i don't think it's fair to expect Sony and MS to take significant losses to appease a crowd whose most vocal have likely already moved to PC.

Anyway, this seems to have as much (if not more) to do with money as power. With enough money, they'd have been able to achieve their 2013 target on PC regardless to the console versions. Evidently they didn't have that kind of money to start with though. Perhaps the success of TW3 will make such targets easier next time round.

Of course the next gen consoles are too weak. Anyone that thought otherwise just didn't want to accept the truth.

I've been saying that people are overestimating the next gen consoles power too much for a long time now.

People need to stop hoping for PC-like quality on consoles, because it's not going to happen because PC is advanced in every way. That's not to say that consoles don't get great quality ports, they do and they still look amazing, i'm just saying though.

Not like most PCs could manage that anyways.

Well my PC can't run The Witcher 3, so clearly they failed to base development on the specifications of the lowest performing throughput system.

Yes in order to make it cost effective, consoles must always be a lesser of that of PC's.

Then why do people act so surprised when there is some sort of downgrade or even complain about it.

And yet, the game still looks very good and still manage to have a good review score. For me, ps4 and xbox one are powerful enough and I rather have this instead of seeing the manufacturer bleeding huge money.

If I'm not mistaken, most of the complains came from the PC fans that were mad because they didn't deliver that trailer experience.

The lowest spec is not console, but PC GFX card that sold best on market.
