Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii U version of Project CARS facing troubles, likely cancelled

Well, these guys are on my blacklist. Used the Nintendo fan base and sites as tools to build hype (cause sure as crap they had no shot in the shadow of Drive Club, Forza, the inevitable GT, or even The Crew at the time) and then threw them aside like trash as soon as they got in bed with the big money at Bamco. I don't care about the game; not a racing Sim fan. But their conduct has been inexcusably unprofessional.

They underestimated how hard it is to make a Wii U port.  That Doesnt mean I think their conduct has been porfessional either.

If Nintendos next Consol has a PowerPC type CPU.... it ll be this gen all over or worse, next gen for nintendo.

*Crosses fingers for x86 or ARM, APU next gen for nintendo*

Wii U is just too weak compaired to the Xbox One & PS4.
Theres no way around that truth, then add ontop of that its crazy hard to develop games for and... yeah.

It isnt getting as many 3rd party games.

I hope nintendos next system is either ARM or x86, not some IMB Powerpc type weird cpu.
I also hope they go with a APU from AMD, and work abit on ease of development for the system.

Please tell me where you've heard that it's "crazy hard" to develop for.

Unfortunately, after looking at articles over the past year or so and now the final version on PS4/XOne, this isn't a huge surprise. Sucks for the people who backed it for the U but hopefully they'll get refunded/provided with an alternate code so no great loss there.

They seem pretty confident that NX will be seen at E3...glad they can be so confident because I don't see it happening at all.

Didn't Nintendo just say that NX would not be at E3 a few days ago? :/

Think they've been saying it won't be shown during 2015 since day one. But yes, they may have mentioned it again recently which makes this comment even more unusual...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

This is just depressing.

The Wii U just can't seem to really get any of these third party games, which is a shame, and it's pretty awful for the people who backed up the Wii U version as well.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

It doesn't look to me that are confident at all.

We're awaiting/hoping for more of a hardware announcement at E3...

...Honestly, unless we really cut the looks back I think we're looking to Nintendo's next console.

...I suppose if they don't announce something at E3 or soon after we will have a go at it.

It was pointed out to Bell that Nintendo's stated there'll be no 'NX' hardware announcement at E3, and he clarified further.

...We could reach a fairly solid 30FPS [on Wii U] but it might take a hell of a lot of work. On the other hand, about halfway through us finishing, Nintendo might announce a new console (I have zero knowledge on this BTW but I've heard 'rumours'). Our work might just be the best thing that ever hit that new console in the driving sim genre.

So we're playing a waiting game at the moment and yes, economics do come in to it.

1.
SMS didn't get 'all their money' from Nintendo fans but most feedback to a stupid survey. Meaning actually nothing.
It's like when we had a 'best game eva' election on our site and all Shenmue fans worldwide voted for Shenmue. No Zelda- Halo or CoD-fan from outside even noticed it.
Most PCars backers AFAIK came from the PC-corner.
2. That game was announced for PS360 as well. Both couldn't really handle it because of lack of feature level..
3. Got a Wii U and actually like it. But Nintendo put way to less CPU power in it. That is something we've had over and over again.
The GPU is basically DX11 like feature level, but by far not as GPGPU optimized like GCN. As well it actually isn't a beast.

Yes, SMS promised a Wii U version. No, 99.5% of possible Project CARS owners wont give a shit ever, no intent to annoy anone, basically that is a fact.
Yes, Wii U will get one third party game less, so there's Just Dance, one other LEGO and some licensed shovelware.
No, this is not 'all lazy devs fault'. That is basically Nintendos fault. Because they made many, many wrong decisions from the start. That is basically Nintendo fanbase fault. Buying some virtual console stuff over and over and over again instead of investing in indies and thirds.

SMS' fault is some marketing BS talk. They should have said 'Wii U version looks great in still pictures' or something like that.

i think necros are illegal now so i'll just leave this here.

Likely true. HD to weak or they simply to unskilled (see other consoles issues).

But that's not the point. They promised to deliver a version on Wii U and they flatly lied. They clearly never looked at a Wii U version in any serious way. So from the beginning they just lied and kept lying. Didn't have the courage or conviction to admit the obivious for all that time.

They promised a PS3 and 360 version as well, but as their ambition and scope grew the weaker hardware had to be cut. The PS4 and X1 can barely hold when the game is firing on all cyliders and from what has been said about the Wii U (specifically its CPU) we should have seen this coming from miles away. There is no secret sauce, not anymore, no one is under any illusions about what these machines can and cant do. They could get it to run at 30fps (in theory) but they would have to downgrade the graphics and maybe tone down on the weather and car counts. But then the game would becalled "gimped".

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

I suppose confident is the wrong choice of word. A better choice might be "hopeful". Either way they don't sound particularly enthusiastic about the project; "I suppose we'll have a go at it" sounds like they're doing it to fulfil backer obligations rather than by choice.
