PS5 releasing 2016 with HD ports of PS4 games and ports of PS4 games that are HD ports of PS3, PS2, PS1, and Gamecube games.

They will probably just make a PS4+ where you can plug your PS4 into something and make it a PS5.   You know, like how well the Sega CD did!

/s

Seriously though, this is normal.  Although, I think a new hand held will probably come out before a new console.  And I think it's probably 4ish years before a new console.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Square-Enix sees the potential in a PS5 release of Final Fantasy 15, in a statement below Square-Enix states

''Creating quality next generation games takes a lot of time and effort. We at Square-Enix have always wanted to push current and future technology to its full potential and make sure we put out a product that satisfies our own tastes,as well as the taste of our consumer.

For many years we have been working many sleepless nights to bring you the latest entry into the Final Fantasy franchise,Final Fantasy 15. We have made many great strides through trial and error to realize the full potential of the Playstation 4. However, upon releasing the Final Fantasy 13 saga on last generation consoles,we realized we had to earn the trust of our devoted fan base back by showing them something completely brand new and go back to the core Final Fantasy feeling. We also feel as a company that with the excitement we've seen with the new Duscae Demo will help fans fall in love with the franchise all over again.

This now brings me to our new exciting announcement regarding the future of Final Fantasy 15. We feel that we need just a little bit more time to bring our fans the game they've desired for many years,so we at Square-Enix are happy to announce that development has moved over exclusively to next generation hardware, the Playstation 5.

This decision doesn't come lightly, but we feel as game developers and as a company that the trust that needs to be earned back from our fans will take some time. To make sure all Final Fantasy fans fall back in love with the franchise once more,we are also announcing that for the remainder of the Playstation 4's life cycle, we will release various versions of the Duscae Demo to show people what they can look forward to on the Playstation 5.

We feel by giving people a taste of what's to come for the next 5-6 years in form of the Duscae Demo, will let players fall in love all over again with this historic franchise.

Thank you very much to all our devoted fans and please be excited''

I'm not shocked by this. Usually they already start looking to the next big thing once their newest console is out.

You forgot that FFXV will now be released on PS5, XB2, NX, PC and mobile to make sure to reach as many fans.

I'm sure there were articles saying ps5 was in development around the time ps4 launched. Isn't it standard practice to begin work on your next console immediately?

Could just be a poor choice of words and it's referring to PS4 as next gen. Although I do believe that they will be doing post mortem of the PS4, looking at what could have been better (raw CPU grunt), looking at performance targets for the next console (E.G 500GB/s memory bandwidth), looking at potential technologies (E.G. SSDs, HBM memory).

PS, PS2, Gameboy Advance, PS3, PSP, PS4, Xbox One

Is anyone seriously surprised by this news? It's pretty much a known fact that work on the next console starts shortly after the previous one was finished; the PS4 has been out for 18 months now so if Sony haven't started work on the PS5 then they'd be either expecting a super long generation or it would be the ultimate in complacency.

In addition the Vita 2 (if it is being made) will likely have been in development for the longest time as well. I wouldn't be surprised to hear more about this soon...assuming it's being released, that is.

Still, I suppose they have at least admitted it, however no doubt Nintendo and MS have also been working on their next consoles for some time. Doesn't mean we will be hearing about them soon though (well, Nintendo notwithstanding).

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

great, i just knew this was going to happen. first the rumored price drop and now this. sony is obviously dropping this console, a new one is going to release next year, and this ps4 i just got is now a giant paperweight!
