Forums - Sony - Sony should buy Sega.

I think it's kinda stupid to go for well established developers with several cash cows which the just milk every year.

Why not go for new up and coming developers , this is where you more likely to find creativity and innovation , giving Sony that competetive edge.

I think everyones tired of "Sonic Shoot To Kill" and "Mario in Dubai" , I think what people want is new and unique IP's , well I do anyway.

Wow I didnt realize they were worth $4B. Good God. Lol. Well my real point was, Sony needs something to go in direct competition with Mario, and Sonic used to back in the day.

I also dont argue that the Wii is a better fit for Sonic, but if Sony doesn't start producing more games that fall in line with Nintendo's more casual crowd and characters Japan will be lost. They need to reach out to that crowd, and taking on Sega to produce those styles of games like they did on the Genesis would be a huge benefit to Sony.

Thats the way the Japanese market is heading, and Sega has experience with those types of games.

They should buy Rare.

...eeehm wait...

You'r right though, but that's not something you can force. Mario & Sonic are unique. They hang around for about 20 years and are still popular.  Besides Sony delivered itself to the Western hardcore by making the PS3, it's hard to change that image around with a somewhat casual character. Look at Ratchet, good game, average sales.

Japan is totally different and we see the result. Final Fantasy will come too late, at least it can't come too soon, but after Yakuza's sales, especially the console numbers, I don't have a clue anymore what Sony can do to boost the PS3. Imitating the Wii at this moment would probably do more harm than good, since it would change the PS3's image again.

Anyone thinking Sega is worth 4 billion is wrong. Sega Sammy holdings are worth 4 billion. Sammy is the dominant partner in that group so sega cant be worth more than 1.5 billion. Why would anyone want to buy out the whole company...for pachinko machines?

Well, what truly great games has Sega made since their going 3rd Party?

I was thinkig opening a new gaming department. Like a Sony Casual department. That way it wouldn't look as if the whole company was changing directions, it just has a department that would specialize in games aimed for the younger crowd.

Its a certainty that Sony has lost that image, and even LBP seems to miss the target if your talking games a 7-10 year old can play. They need something that can be picked up and played by that age group.

If not Sega, then I dont know who else can fill that void and be successful.

hmmm...
*puts on thinking cap, tightens chin strap*

no they shouldnt. Sega sucks and is unable to make a decent game. They shouldnt taint themselves with sega.

Games I liked - Sega rally revo, condemned, Sonic rush DS, VF4...

In any case, there arent many.

This is the reason why someone has to step in and help sega out while getting an amazing return using their IP's. Sammy is sucking them dry right now...

@Kyros

Think of it this way...if you are nice to a dog it will be your best freind but if you mistreat it it will turn on you. Sega is being mistreated right now, but if someone was to give them proper funding and not just think of "less dev cost-more cash in"...sega would be the best dog a company can have. :)

Mario & Sonic is probably Sega's most profitable title. Take that away and Sega's value drops significantly. So Sony would be paying for something that would essentially go in the garbage pail.

Didn't Sega just say that they wouldn't accept a buyout?

Yeah, I know they had some, my point was there haven't been many, like you said.

Also, Sony should buy Nintendo.
