This probably rules out the possibility of a mainline Pokémon RPG this year?

Not necessarily, they announced Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire last May as well.

Another good observation. Glad that's the case as they need to cool it with main line releases.

I haven't played a Mystery Dungeon game since Rescue Team. Perhaps I'll check this one out.

For 3DS? I think Codename Steam was the only new 3DS game by Nintendo announced last year.
