Photo realism in 4k?

Gen 9 6 8.33%

Gen 10 28 38.89%

Gen 11 18 25.00%

Gen 12 or later 20 27.78%

Total:72

After watching this video (link below) from reviewtechusa i am curious to see what you guys think. Personally i could wait a couple more generations because i am quite happy with how todays graphics look on my xbox one. However this topic will be a big deal for the so called "graphic whores". What do you think? When will we see photo realistic or CGI quality visuals rendered in native 2160p on a home console? Of course this is completely dependant on wether or not home console will exist in the future.

I'm not sure consoles will exist in the same way they do today by the time they hit photo-realistic visuals. We're still a long way off as it is. Possibly Gen 10 or 11

Photo realism is ridiculously far off in the future and also really not a goal that I personally care too much about.

"After watching this video from reviewtechusa" - That's always the best way to start a thread :p

I really really doubt that next gen will be able to play AAA games at 4k60.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

A reallyyyyyyy long time from now. Who knows, maybe with streaming, we might be able to do it

Very hard to tell. Not before 2030 probably. I hope console are still around by then.

Add me on Xbox: DWTKarma

I think the best point is brought up at the end of the video, it's ridiculously expensive to make a game with that kind of visual fidelity - there are like 2 franchise that could get away with that kind of investment, Fifa and GTA.

Not anytime soon, that's for darn sure.

It might even take us a couple decades.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

It could be next gen.
All you need is 4K VR glasses with pupil tracking. Then you can reduce the render load to 5% of the full image.

Depending on what you render, today comes very close already.

And the Luminous engine

Add a bunch of dof effects, choose the lighting carefully and it's not too difficult anymore to appear photo realistic.

Full open world 2160p60, real time ray-traced, 3 more gens at least.

Thank you for stating in the OP that it was a reviewtechusa vid, saves me giving him a view.

But I'd guess next Gen for 4k, would stand to reason.
