Forums - Gaming - CD Projekt comment on removed Witcher 3 PC-PS4 comparison video(PC Version Downgraded?)

ok let me ask you two questions.

1) What spec of PC do you think would be required to run the witcher 3 as it was originally showed, before the downgrade?

2) Take an educated guess as to how many PC gamers will have these builds.

My answers would be

1) atleast an i7/GTX970

2) the minority

Therefore, for the majority who dont have that, wont be disappointed by the 'downgrade' since they were not going to be able to play it at the higher setting anyway. When people bought expensive PC's that money went to hardware manufacturers, CD projeckt got nothing and therefore they dont owe it to you to make software that justifies your hardware purchase.

If you think it looks pants then fine, but most gamers know it runs as good as it can be on their hardware.

You speak as if PC gamers will just buy the game and most will set it to ultra and it will run ok because 'it looks pants' anyway. Thats not how it works.

The thing is that PC games can have really long legs, particularly if they scale well. It's nice to see games that offer what may seem like excessive settings (ironically like the Witcher 2 'ubersampling') because the hardware WILL come.

Ideally you have :

Low end settings in the realm of somewhat playable with mediocre hardware

Midrange settings in the realm of PS4/X1

High end settings that go beyond the current top end cards

We have 390X, Pascal, sub-20nm, all kinds of stuff coming soon, so leaving in the better graphics options for PC wouldn't have been a bad idea. For now maybe only high end people could run it, but HBM + dieshrinks and a midrange card in 2016 might make a 980 look slow, while a high end card in mid/late 2016 will laugh at today's SLI/CF stuff.

At least downsampling in drivers from 4K to 1080 and mods can help. Skyrim stock vs. Skyrim heavily modded is incredibly impressive for example.

Now if they simply didn't have the resources to live up to their 2013 goals, fine. Regardless of source (MS, Sony, CDPR, whoever), I'm REALLY tired at this point of the bullshots and intentionally misleading 'early' footage, trailers, etc. Yes, anyone who knows the industry knows to expect it, but it's still annoying. What's wrong with a little honesty? I remember the X1 Forza 5 gameplay they had on the Jimmy Fallon show, and we came to find out later that was the pre-downgrade version running on a ludicrous PC, with the final version being downgraded pretty heavily. Sony has done similar I'm sure, and it just seems to be too tempting for people to BS as much as they can get away with until they get closer to release, and then : "Oh, it's not downgraded!".

I don't think pointing out there being non PC users gives me an advantage, there's nothing wrong in pointing out that people don't game on PC and being able to spot them, you think it's wrong for me to spot my stepdad out for not being one who knows how to use PC's/phones and yet a few times he's gabbed as if he knew about them until I stepped in to correct him, what's wrong with that?.

You straight off the bat went with Steam HWS like it literally was the very and only end all to be all answer, truth is it isn't and you'll argue till the cows come home that it is, it's really not and you don't account for what I said before about people who opt out, people not on Steam but instead you went into a defensive mode and decided to focus on me pointing something out and instead of answering first you went straight for the throat, sorry if I don't see you being any more civil.

"Nobody thinks that all PCs are low end. But they are the minority. Vocal sure, but close to meaningless in the grand scheme of things."

Apparently a lot of people do, appartly if we go only by Steam HWS there's lots of low end to be had, what's the grand scheme of things?.

"I am definitely convinced that you don't know what a survey is because you are still talking about the "issue" that it doesn't cover every single being on the planet."

Sure lets keep focus on that and maybe you'll win from irking someone to death, I already said I know but again you are basing your answer as if the survey is end all to be all but sure lets roll with your answer because at this point I can't be bothered to deal with two different people acting in the same manner.

If ppl who use high end PCs were the majority and it actualy made a financial impact to cater to this crowd CD Projekt wouldve gone the extra mile to offer a "super ultra graphics" option or somethign for the guys who do have absurdly powerfull pCs. Since they havent the question kinda answers itself, the majority of ppl who play on PC have lower or average speced machines that wont be affected at all by the lack of the "super amazing ultra graphics" option.

Ppl also seen to be forgetting that developing for 3 plataforms at once requires time and therefore it gets realy ahrd to optmise to any of the 3, wich is why plataform exclusive games always have superior graphics. Its not at all hard to understand. Ppl are complaining about the Witcher because it used to be a PC exclusive and therefore was super highly optmized for PCs, guess what, it isnt anymore its not super fine tuned for PCs anymore, CD Projekt had the oportunity to make an infinite amount of money with this game and stop beeing exclusive, they took it (as theyre stock value prooves, CD Projekt stocks reached an all time high following the info of 1milion + preorders of The Witcher 3). Stop whinning about graphics and be happy that an amazing developer is gona get throngs of money, that means more awesome games coming for us from CD Projekt.

Is that meant to be a direct reply to my quote because the way you worded it didn't seem like it was even aimed at me, also the spelling is all over the place just an fyi.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

There's a surprising amount of bans in here. Didn't realize that so many users had disdain for PC gamers.

Official Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Thread

What i find interesting is that we have defenders this time around. When we were talking about Watch Dogs downgrade, no one cared. Yea, i know, Watch Dogs is boring and no one likes Ubisoft, but still.

Somehow false advertise, is not that false anymore. Unless its EA/Ubisoft of course.

The first paragraph was (actualy it was a coment on the whole discusion you and michael_stutzer were were having regarding the validity of using Steam surveys and what are the general spec of ppls gamming PCs) , the second paragraph was just me comentting on the topic but not directly at what you were saying. My spelling is like that cause English is not my first language and I learned to speak the language speaking, I studied the gramar after that but I never got to learn the proper way of writting each and every word.

You'd be surprised, mobile and PC gamers are the least popular groups in here.

It's probably going to stay like this until major crackdowns happen, for every good thing that happens, 5 more topics or reasons crop up and the cycle repeats itself without the community ever growing or advancing and then we'll get some sort of all knowing all seeing vizier to tell us why it isn't growing here is due to how small and insignificant PC's are or something like seperating PC gamers into two groups to suit their agenda.

The sad part is that this site has a lot of terrific PC gamers, but some aren't very active, and I imagine that these attitudes we're seeing here are part of the reason.

Look up confirmation bias, then answer this :

If a fact emerges which does NOT line up with my preconcieved feelings about CDPR/Witcher 3, will I acknowledge this?

Honest people can easily tell that this was downgraded. But instead, because of their preformed ideas on the subject will say 'it doesn't matter', even if they slammed EA/Ubi over similar downgrades/Bullshots.

Now some people are consistent, they just don't care about graphics or dev/publisher honesty, and that's fine. But we know that many aren't consistent by any stretch.
