My favorite Nintendo franchise. Totally loved the Prime series, despite being a bit skeptical (how could it possibly work in 3d). "Super Metroid" is usually a strong contender for GOAT. Heh... Goat.

As a child of the 4th gen who still considers the SNES the greatest console ever made, I really don't get the hype for Super Metroid.

I would bet that 99% of the people on this forum know what metroid is, but not the general public. More people will be able to recognize Samus from smash, but if you asked what game she is from they would just shrug.

I think metroid is preatty popular actually, its more known then kirby

Thats not saying much.

Kirby is pretty much only popular in the US  (atleast thats how I see it).

I think Metroid is bigger in the US than anywhere else in the world as well.

Meanwhile ask anyone in the world if they know a guy named Mario that has a mustashe and likes to jump on goombas and rescue princesses,

and everyone will reply yes.

You guys know that "big in japan" type joke?

Kirby and metroid are kinda like that.... they just couldnt make it internationally (they are big in the US).

--------------------

edit:  (i went out looking to see if my "assumption" was correct, first vgchartz kirby game result I found)

Kirby's Epic Yarn

North America: 1.41m 68.8%
+ Europe: 0.09m 4.4%
+ Japan: 0.45m 22.0%
+ Rest of the World: 0.10m 4.8%

And that was one of the most selling Kirby games? I think for the Wii when it was big.

In europe no one knows who kirby is... atleast not your avg joe.

Kirby triple deluxe did really good, and Kirby return to dreamland aswell. Kriby rainbow paintbrush did well enough of its budget title, i live in sweden and i bought Kirby rainbow paintbrush. Metroid is very iconic. Alot of people know it

Of course. It is the best video game series, and Super Metroid is still my favorite video game of all time.

An amazing series which is way too overlooked.

As an ex-Nasa employee, yeah, i discovered this creature in planet SR388, they absorbed one of my partner, so, i've managed to escape from this planet.

Yeah... They fired me.

Of course, i've heard it. Metoird is one of the best franchise. xD

It has a built in tutorial that didn't feel like a tutorial. You explore a beautiful, expansive, immense, and atmospheric alien world. The gameplay is great and keeps you wanting more via upgrades and secrets. The story is impactful despite being simplistic. It is the merger of good game design, with good setting design, and good gameplay. What confuses you?

Been a fan since the original on NES.
