Super Metroid is one of my favourite games ever so I think I have a vague idea about it.

Thats not saying much.

Kirby is pretty much only popular in the US  (atleast thats how I see it).

I think Metroid is bigger in the US than anywhere else in the world as well.

 

Meanwhile ask anyone in the world if they know a guy named Mario that has a mustashe and likes to jump on goombas and rescue princesses,

and everyone will reply yes.

 

You guys know that "big in japan" type joke?

Kirby and metroid are kinda like that.... they just couldnt make it internationally (they are big in the US).

edit:  (i went out looking to see if my "assumption" was correct, first vgchartz kirby game result I found)

And that was one of the most selling Kirby games? I think for the Wii when it was big.

In europe no one knows who kirby is... atleast not your avg joe.

Heard of it and played a couple games. I see the appeal but it isn't for me.

I admire the strong female protagonist though. That's real feminism right there.

You might be unfamiliar with how low the sales numbers of Metroid games are compared to Nintendo's other franchises. Only two Metroid games have ever sold above 2 million, and none have sold above 3 million.Nintendo has had 36 games that have sold above 10 million, 80 games that have sold above 5 million, and 143 games that have sold above the highest selling Metroid game.
