That's another thing as well. Nintendo fans on this site talk about Metroid a lot. So people hear about it. You don't really hear about Metroid on other gaming sites.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Have you heard about Persona? People talk a lot about it here too.
Persona: 6m
Metroid: 18m
Metroid is 3 times bigger than Persona.
Also
Devil May Cry: 15m
Castlevania: 14 m
You are trying to justify your lack of knowledge, anybody who don´t know what Metroid is, has no idea about videogame history, also, the best selling ones are not the oldest, Metroid Prime (2002) sold 3m on GC, Metroid Prime 3 Corruption was close to 2m on 2007, those are not pokemon numbers, but they are good enough, Also Super Metroid is widely considered one of the best games ever made and Metroid Prime has a freaking 97 on Meta, is one of the best scored games ever.
The saga has been pretty consistent between 1.5m - 2m (Fusion, Echoes, Corruption, Metroid 2, Super Metroid , Other M) with 2 games around 3m (Metroid and Metroid Prime). Those are good numbers overall.
I remembered watching gameplay on SNES a long time ago. Later heard about the prime series and watch gameplay on youtube. I still haven't played a Metroid game.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm getting the feeling that you made this thread in hopes that people wouldn't know about Metroid.
We're on a gaming forum. Most people that play games have heard about Metroid. Does the casual gamer? Probably not, but they don't know many franchises to begin with.
You got your data. I'm not sure what else you want.
Super Metroid > Other M > Prime1 = Prime 2 > Prime 3 > Fusion
Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever
Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe
Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor
Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

You mean my second favourite franchise? Nope, never heard of it.
| Jumpin said: Nearly 5% here, which is fairly low, but I am willing to bet some of the Nintendo people on this site will have found it surprising. WEven more surprising, you'll discover that it's not necessarily that well known in the US either. Of these 10 American teenaged gamers, 5 of the 10 have never heard of Metroid before. |
That is kind of a stretch. Many of them aren't gamers and one isn't American (she is an English celebrity.)
My experience with it has been 3 minutes of Super Metroid in Amiibo Tap and about an hours worth of Prime 1 on Wii.
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Yeah, Metroid Prime Echoes was terrible. Other M was amazing doh.
GIVE ME DAT 2.5D 3DS METROID NINTENDO!
Anyway i think its clear that based on sales and the comments section, gamers always hear about Metroid but just dont give a damn about it since its not Halo or Call of Duty.

Kirby is bigger, historically at least. Never heard of any of the bolded ones, even on VGC. Never played any of the Italicized games. Even though I really want to play Xeno and Pikmin. |
Well, now you can name 11 Nintendo franchises smaller than Metroid, 12 if you count Starfox. :P
