http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-in-theory-psn-jailbreaking

accodring to eurogamer sony has the power to brick a ps3 if they want to

Speculation at best (that they can brick it) (if its never been done before, how can we really know? could just be speculation on authurs part)

also :

"....this effectively makes you fair game for a PSN ban" (they make you unable to play online)

" to date there have been no ban waves that we've been aware of, despite Jailbroken consoles being easily detectable."

Sony dont even ban people, if they are caught running a jailbroken consol.

that vs Ms actually did just brick some consols (and not just online useablity).

one the article is from 2011 so who knows if they have baned anyone since

two sony can brick any of there devices

Sony did it to ps3's.and there's no reason to worry as long as you don't break the rules right? So what is the problem.

It's completely unethical. Where does it say in the NDA: 'we have the right to render your purchase useless.' Punish them by all means but this is dropping a bomb on a knife fight.

The PS5 Exists.

"SNEI may also take steps on behalf of its device platform partners to disable permanently or temporarily any device on which you receive PSN First Party Services and through use of which you violate the Community Code of Conduct. "

doesnt that just mean they block your Services for that device? not that they kill your consol, but that it doesnt work for PSN first Party services.

anyway... these people broke their NDA's.. don't go testing games and then break NDA's.. they signed them so they knew this could happen

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

That was solely for PSN and online features. You could still play offline but wouldn't have access to any online features.

From what I remember, Sony would role out firmware updates which blocked unauthorised code. You could still run that code if you didn't update the firmware but you wouldn't be able to use PSN without updating putting users in a catch-22.

this says that even if its offline they wont work

The amount of access Sony has to your machine is greater than you probably suspect: the company even has the means to irrevocably disable your console should it so wish, and if that happens, it will remain non-functional whether you're online or offline.

That's from one of the commentors, so it's hardly a good source for this; people spout all sorts of bull-crap and misinformation in the comments.

Proper confirmation from a reliable article/source would be nice.

Not surprised seeing who the OP is... This has nothing to do with xbl, this has to do with an nda they signed that stated this will happen. This is the leakers fault not Microsofts

yeah I can see why you guys reside in your own thread, this sort of info feels like it's on purpose and we've already got two users screeching "This is gonna be megaton huuuuuuuuuuge, so huggggge" as if they were ever invested in MS to begin with and just feels like a reason to call doom or MS pure evil.

It's like this site can never ever have good MS news without someone trying to bring it down to the depths of hell.

The point isn't even that big of a deal since in the end like stated it was the leakers fault and they were dealt with and should be either way.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Who knows what it means.. Sony is all mighty..  there is a Sony van driving up to my house... I think they are gonna break my legs...

Yes its all just doom-mongering.....

Why cant we all just be happy about this "good" news.

I dont really see it as being good news that MS choose to brick someones consols...

I didnt even know that was possible, and I dont consider the fact that is, good news.

Maybe they are at fault, and that kinda makes it okay..... still doesnt make it good news.
