This is interesting. I've scanned the thread on this over at GAF and so far only found comments such as 'this is disgusting' or 'they deserve it.' It really is strange how nobody (as far as I can see) has actually thought: 'wait a minute ... MS can brick my XB1?'

Sony did it to ps3's.and there's no reason to worry as long as you don't break the rules right? So what is the problem.

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

Its funny how all these Sony fans love to attack MS because you own the console yet are very forgetful for what Sony pulled on George Hotz.

They broke their NDA and paid a very small price for it. I'm sure a lot of stuff from these articles can be twisted and taken out of context.

Wasnt that only the online funktions? did they really make you unable to play even offline games?

The Xbox one, bricked like this cant even play offline games, from what I understand of this situation.

Good, leakers should die imo.

you cannot accept and agreement and go break it as you feel like it. i guess they learned the hard way.
:-p

die as in the leaks should die out? or the people who leak them should die? because if its the latter then dude... chill... thats so fucked up.

There is a differnce between Reverse engineering a consol, and potentially makeing that pubic, and someone that records a gameplay video and uploads it to youtube.

Poor Hotz, he had to promis to stop hacking sony device, thats a huge price to pay (sarcasm).

Dude now works for Google, and is on good terms with sony. He has been consulting with sony designers/engineers on security.

That was solely for PSN and online features. You could still play offline but wouldn't have access to any online features.

From what I remember, Sony would role out firmware updates which blocked unauthorised code. You could still run that code if you didn't update the firmware but you wouldn't be able to use PSN without updating putting users in a catch-22.

this says that even if its offline they wont work

The amount of access Sony has to your machine is greater than you probably suspect: the company even has the means to irrevocably disable your console should it so wish, and if that happens, it will remain non-functional whether you're online or offline.

Speculation at best (that they can brick it)

(if its never been done before, how can we really know? could just be speculation on authurs part)

also :

"....this effectively makes you fair game for a PSN ban" (they make you unable to play online)

" to date there have been no ban waves that we've been aware of, despite Jailbroken consoles being easily detectable."

Sony dont even ban people, if they are caught running a jailbroken consol.

that vs Ms actually did just brick some consols (and not just online useablity).

Meh.. at least Sony can disable any device with PSN access
