Since its reveal at the end of 2013, No Man’s Sky has arguably become one of the most anticipated indie games. Whilst it’s only being developed by a small team at Hello Games, PlayStation UK MD Fergal Gara has revealed the confidence Sony has in NMS and strongly hinted that it could get a simultaneous digital and Blu-ray release.
Fergal Gara said
“No Man’s Sky has been treated as if it was from one our internal studios. We’ve been working very closely with the developers and bringing it into our release programme as if we had made it. We are not going to treat it any differently and we are going to put the full weight of PlayStation behind it. If it all comes together as well as expected, it will be treated like a first-party released; it is not a self-published small indie title on the platform.”
When discussing physical releases for indie games on PlayStation he says:
“These days we think increasingly of a game being a game, whether it is digital, physical or both. It is more about making the right decision for the right title at the right time. It is entirely possible that we will release some of these games together, digitally and physically.”
Sony undoubtedly know how well No Man’s Sky is progressing and Gara has said they have a lot of faith in it. So with all the positive coverage it’s receiving I can think of no better candidate for a box release. It will certainly help it reach a much wider demographic. What do you think?
