Not sure, but the first ever HD Pokémon game and first ever console mainline Pokémon experience is hardly a typical situation.

A dual release would serve both goals: Good 3DS sales and good Switch sales. I can't agree with Nuvendil's reasoning. Why should Nintendo limit themselves to one blockbuster? I already expect a Super Smash Bros. 4 Deluxe this fall because Nintendo will want to push their paid online service, so that already makes two big Switch titles going into the holiday season. However, I am not convinced that Pokémon will release this year, I can easily imagine a March 2018 release date for both 3DS and Switch. |
Nintendo has already shown themselves willing to put out 3DS exclusives after the release of Switch, just as they put out DS exclusives after the release of 3DS.
A dual release may be the logical move, but Nintendo often behave illogically.

It's not about limiting yourself to one blockbuster, it's about not wasting ammunition. The first HD Pokemon is a huge deal, best to space that out so that it can have maximum impact. Also, Smash Deluxe is big, but not as big as Odyssey, Pokemon, etc.
It seems relatively easier for them to make a switch version because it looks like they were prepping during the sun and moon development. Remember when data miners found the hd models for all the pokemon including walking and running animations. They seem to have prepared already
That's another thing; Nintendo seem totally opposed to allowing Pokemon to be played on a TV, to the point where the DS/GBA games were excluded from Wii U eshop despite Virtual Console supporting those machines.

If only Switch was portable... |
It's also playable on a TV though, and Nintendo act as though playing Pokemon this way is some sort of forbidden blasphemy.

Do you now propose that the Pokémon series ends? Switch is the successor to both the Wii U and 3DS, so there won't be other Nintendo hardware in the next five years at least. Or do you suggest that the next generation of Pokémon games launches on the 3DS? |
If I had to guess, I'd say the next Pokemon game(s) will be for 3DS.

You have to trolling at this point.

DS got exclusive Pokemon games after 3DS came out, so there is a precedent.
