Ah, critical hits, gotta love em aswell as hate em! Once you gain more stat altering stuff and better pair up bonuses, crits become much easier to avoid... but only to an extent!
Not yet but will be starting Birthright soon. Is there really that much of a difference, aren't the mechanics and everything still the same, or do you mean storywise? I'm not surprised Birthright is worse though, I mean it gives you Swordmasters, so that automatically makes it the inferior version. :L
Lastly do you use Xander and Leo? Cause I didn't use them at all! xD

The mechanics are the same in BR, yes. The weapons are called different things but they function the exact same way (except for Festals, with an additional range) but the difference is the story and of course, the maps.
A lot of maps are reused (I would daresay about 50%?) and in the reverse order, but there are some new stages that add an interesting tweak, like the clone stage and that is what makes it stand above BR. The story, I feel, is more interesting since BR is your typical FE story where you are being invaded and you have to eventually defeat the enemies, whereas Conquest is different, so good for that
I'm not a fan of using prepromoted units.. but after finishing Chapter 18, I picked them up and realize they are a lot better than some of my other units, especially with their weapons. My axe fighter didn't turn up so good, and his hit and speed is too low for me to be able to train him up and my beastmaster isn't anything special so I replaced both of them with those 2. It's working out just fine (should have used them in the ninja stage -.- )

As long as the maps play differently then I can be okay with recycling. The last 4 Conquest maps are kinda similar layout wise, but each one requires completely different strats. Likewise with the story, every plot has been done a million times so for me it's all about the excecution, and well Conquest was just okay for me on that front. I really liked the player character, but I'm not a fan of evil because the game needs antagonist, and as I expected there's a lot of stuff left unexplained, a dirty way to make you wanna buy the full game! Also most of the chapters are spent not fighting Hoshido, thus many of them had little consequence to the overall plot so they felt like filler. It's fine though, I buy Nintendo games for the amazing gameplay and on that front Conquest well and far away exceeded my expectations!
Yeah same here (well except Felicia n Jakob but they don't really count), prepromotes are usually OP when you first get them but they don't gain good experience for a while, and by that time I've already decided who I'ma stick with. Had to bring back Camilla though since great personal skill and flying unit. Beastmaster, you mean Keaton? I'm surprised, he's one of my MVPs, put in so much work for me! But that's the great thing about this game, you can use so many different team comps and be successful with any of them. I ended up dropping Arthur and Charlotte aswell, though not because they weren't good, they definitely put in work, but I simply had too many green weapons and I prefer other skills to the ones they'd get, like Luna > Sol and Rally Defense > Rally Strength. Oh and about that ninja mission, did you have Saizo survive til the end? I let him die immediately so he'd stop removing traps that slow the enemy and stealing experience, plus he's a dirty Hoshidan lel.
I didn't want to mention it yet until you beat Conquest but god damn, just like Chapter 23 I can't stop thinking about the final chapter as the battle I had there was so freaking intense and epic! Okay the story around it was weird and didn't make much sense, again the lack of explanation, but who cares! Amazing gameplay + amazing music is all you need to have a masterpiece which is what this chapter was! For a certain reason the stakes are much higher as losing here is more costly than on any other map, adding to the intensisty! Despite how careful I tried to be, the map still trolled me hard, like making me think one thing was the rule, then going "lol nope!" and massively screwing me over. Many times I'd be backed into a corner thinking I'd definitely lost this, but no my team comp is too versatile, there was always a strat I'd eventually come up with to get out of each tough situation! Everyone pulled their weight until the showdown with the boss, where the final engagement with him was simply epic in the way it played out, like a movie! Ah man I would love to go into more detail but you gotta play this for yourself first!
Dang this post became long, sorry about that!
