There are many pieces of gaming hardware or accessories that are often considered "useless" or "a gimmick" to some people. But there are many games that are able to use these "gimmicks" in very good ways. So, what do you think is the best of of these features?

This is something of a mini-series I'll be doing. I will update the thread with new topics every few days.

We'll talk about Sixaxis next, specifically for the Sixaxis (Launch controller), Dualshock 3, and Dualshock 4. While Sixaxis is also present in the Move and Vita, we'll just stick to standard console controllers for now.

Sony's Sixaxis, as the name suggests, is a motion sensor that can read 6 directions of motion (3-axis gyroscope plus 3-axis acceleraometer). At the PS3's launch, it was a standard feature on the PS3 controller of the same name. Later, the Dualshock 3 was released. It added rumble motors while keeping the Sixaxis motion sensor. It later appeared in the Dualshock 4 as well, with improved responsiveness and accuracy. Game developers can utilize the motion sensor to allow for an additional method of control input, where controller motion affects the gameplay.

What games or other non-game applications do you think used Sixaxis in the best way? In my opinion, the software keyboard (on PS4) was a great implementation. By pressing R3 in the keyboard, you can use Sixaxis to select the text you need. I have a bluetooth keyboard though, so this doesn't matter much to me. But it's certainly far better than using the D-Pad for those that don't use an external keyboard.

I remember they giving a interview that SF would use It. You could program combos and choose a triger for it on vmu. Wrecking  havoc everytime you use it.

For Round 2, we'll discuss the Kinect for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. First launched in 2010, the Kinect features stereo cameras and other advanced sensors, allowing for incredibly accurate information about the 3D space in front of it. In 2013, Kinect 2.0 for the Xbox One was launched. Originally sold as standard with every Xbox One (Now an optional accessory) Kinect 2.0 has several improvements. It ditches the stereo cameras in favor of a high-tech ToF (Time-of-Flight) sensor, with the camera's recording resolution bumped up to a full 1080p at 30 fps.

What games or apps do you think used the Kinect in the best way? It can be either a full Kinect game, or a normal game that uses Kinect for extra features. Or it can be a non-game entirely.

I've never had an Xbox, so I haven't had much experience with the device. But the way you can use it to alert zombies in Dead Rising 3 sounds like a neat feature (or annoying, if you sneeze or something).

Kinect Sports, Dance Central, Fantasia and Xbox Fitness used Kinect in a good way. I still think Kinect will become a special product in the VR space. Kinect Sports Rivals VR would be amazing imo.

Wow kinect was a gimmick that piece of kit was useless IMO. I liked my 360 but dam that kinnect got put away quick. Motion controls on wii I hated too. Game pad on wii u is OK. PS move is rubbish. Phew think I'm done. Best gimmick ever was a n64 rumble pack. Industry standard now

It is great for Skype while you game. I use it to quickly access certain apps as well, and it is amazing for kids games! Maybe use it more in educational software?

Nogamez, did you ever play Resident Evil 4 on the wii ?

The fact you had to point the wii mote, like a gun at the screen helped immersion alot for that game.

I feel like it was a really good way to improve first person shooters (maybe not competitive type games) but....

it was pretty much perfect for the survival horror genre.

I only use it for "Xbox On," "Xbox, watch tv," Xbox go to...," and "Xbox, turn off... yes."

Add "Xbox, Record That", "Xbox, Take A Screenshot", and "Xbox, Snap ______" and you have my Xbox One Kinect  experience to a tee!
