Forums - Gaming - Why is it that Wii U's name failed it but Xbox One's didn't?

Which console has the better name?

Wii U 110 27.09%

Xbox One 109 26.85%

Yo Mama 187 46.06%

Total:406

The only major reason Wii U fails is the games.

I own Wii U but that's because i intend to buy a playstation 4 later and also have a gaming pc.

Most people buy only one console.

The name of Wii U is not the main raison why it failed...

Another reason: nintendo spend 3 dimmes in marketing and call it a day, as where microsoft....

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

It wasn't just the name, but the combination of the name AND how they put so much emphasis on the Gamepad like it was a separate device. They could've gotten around one or the other separately, but not both at once.

Have some time to kill? Read my shitty games blog. http://www.pixlbit.com/blogs/586/gigantor21

:D

Because there is

Wii
Wii Fit
Wii Fit Plus
Wii Fit Balance Board
Wii Party
Wii Zapper
Wii Music
Wii Play
Wii Wheel
"Wii-mote"
Wii U
etc.

How can someone that does not really care about gaming  not be confused by this? There is no indication whatsoever that WiiU is something SEPERATE that is not just an addon or accessoire for Wii.

On xbox there is
- Xbox 360
- Xbox live (which is NOTHING you see at retail and if you see the months they are just a piece of paper and clearly tell you what it is and that they are for use with XBOX 360 and now XBOX one)
-Xbox One (8 years between 1 product being called XBOX 360 and the next one being called XBOX ONE)

Same with NX..... just call the damn system Wii Next  :p  or  Wii 2/3 whatever.

If nintendo is trying to build a brand name, like playstation with Wii, the consol should have a modifer next to it, that differeniates it from the previous in the series.  Numbers are really good at this, and make it apparent which is the old model and which is the newer.

Well the problem with numerically naming the consoles is that it'll sound inferior to a console with a higher number.
Not to you and me, but to an average casual consumer out to buy a new console, if they look at the shelf and see Xbox 2 and PlayStation 3, they're more likely to chose PS3. That's why Microsoft named their next console 360, and now have to keep coming up with new names each time.
So if Nintendo and Microsoft had gone that rout, we'd be seeing Wii 2, Xbox 3 and PlayStation 4 next to each other on the shelf.

^ that would have been a accurate representation of the consols performance in order lol.

Wii U was a better name, but the Xbox One had better marketing.

Also consider that Nintendo uses like nothing at all on marketing so how is the avg consumer supposed to be aware of it?

Seriously if nintendo right from the start had marketed the consol better, things probably wouldnt be as grim as they are now.

At every reveal ever on the internet everyone will call the thing that was announced bad. What matters is what actually sticks and how the mainstream consumer reacts.

Obviously Microsoft weren't thinking about that though since they now have Xbox 1 vs PS4. If the opposition being 1 number higher was so bad why did they think it was fine for them to be 3 higher?

Maybe this is foreshadowing something.

4-1=3

Three times less sales for Xb1 compared to PS4 LT confirmed.
