Frankly after playing God of War I was really under whelmed by the series, the same with ninja gaiden, but not to the same extent,
I played through both and frankly I don't see why people are so enamored with either, plus they are both just over glorified single player beat-em ups, hmm come to think of it they just high polygon renditions of the nes version of double dragon
God of War
-fixed camera hurts, I can't look around and get a better view of where I need to go
-gameplay lets see first combat I beat it by hitting square, square, trianlge, square, square, triangle ad nauseum until the game ended, with the only breaks the occasionally hitting R2 to activate magic mode followed by square square square or circle circle circle, the occasional quick timer event, or jamming down both analog stick to go into rage mode. and Oh boy how could I forget collecting angry orbs to power up weapons
next platforming, uhhhh, the platforming in god of war is absolutely atrocious, lots of walking on planks I'll give it that
and finally boss fights, these certainly were disappointing, big bosses do not equal cool or fun bosses, just stick square square square roll and victory is ensured
Graphically, yeah the backgrounds were cool when some big Greek structure was in the distance and you'll never ever hear me complain about 60 fps, but enemies and textures all lack detail, textures in particular were monotonous and their never was a huge enemy count in wide open areas
and the story, wow that was cliched,
****Spoliers********** (albeit abbreviated)
********
Mr Angry did something bad and he feels bad, Mr. Angry can get revenge on the guy responsible for making him do that bad thing, Mr. Angry is so angry that he can even return from the dead to get revenge. Mr. Angry finds out revenge doesn't make him stop feeling bad. Mr. Angry tries to kill himself, but then Mr. Angry is given a greater purpose
End Spoilers************
Ninja Gaiden is a bit better but it is steal just a glorified beat em up
gameplay always broke down to slash-slash-slash-kick to break the enemy's gaurd-slash-slash-slash, or for big enemies slash-slash-slash-roll, with the occasional magic uses to make life easier, and jumping and spinning at those fish
and oh boy instead of god of wars angry orbs I get to collect ninja orbs to power up.
platforming was significantly better than god of wars but it still was somewhat clunky and the camera frequently made scene's harder to deal with than they should have been.
Story wise was basically God of wars, but replace angry with ninja and swap a few words around and drop the ending sentence and replace with and magically ninja'd away with after a job well done, and add it was the uncle the whole time.
Frankly the only highlight of the story was the spider-clan ninja's sometimes humorous journal entries
Visually it's really nice, and runs at 60 but outside of small room there's never more than 3 enemies at once (save for fish) and really the game is generally in closed of areas when your actually doing anything
Basically in my opinion, god of war is a very well polished but mediocre game that features a really angry hero and violence and a few topless women and that's why people like it,
and ninja gaiden, is a very well polished but average game that features a ninja with some nostalgic ties and violence and that's why people like it
and come on they are both just over glorified beat em ups
never played devil may cry so I can't have an opinion of the game
I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!
NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOW is 1st. It uses a good camera system and has great gameplay.
Ninja Gaiden is 2nd. Great gameplay, poor camera.
DMC is 3rd. its a great game, i just like the other two better.
@Mass,
The story in god of war is simple enough to get you through the game, but it's HOW it does it which makes it great. And some of your mundane characters in that game are Greek gods and beasts of burden xD, not quite mundane, that and the game never falters from it's feel, the environments, enemy's, and music all feel perfectly blended in it's execution, and although this site seems to hate the interactive movie sequences, they've never been done better in any series.
The combat might not be as detailed as say Heavenly Sword or Ninja Gaiden, but the combat is much more than just remembering combo's also, it's very situational and certain things only really work on certain enemy's, and the grabs make for very diverse combat which constantly shuffles you between combat and interactive movie.
If your purely a method gamer, I can see this game having lasting appeal, but if your looking for a total package of epic feeling, adrenaline, awe inspiring moments melded with some of the greatest cinematography the production world has ever seen, God of war is a game for you :P

Here's what I think,
You have your young punk badass Anime like person in DMC,
A badass Ninja in Ninja Gaiden,
and a "I'm going to kill EVERYBODY!!!!" badass in God of War.
Now which badass suits you best?

Ninja Gaiden 9/10 for the story ?
What story ?????
The game has the lamest story of all 3 games with no character development at all and very few cut scenes.............
Otherwise I would say God of War has the best story of all 3 but it's just a button masher, you hardly need to learn the skills to beat the game and it probably has the less replay value of all 3 games ( the fact the other 2 have a scoring system and online ranking helps their replayability).
But yeah if you're an average gamer and just look for a good game to play through once GoW is probably the best of the three...
DMC has probably the most replayability as mastering every weapon and style can take a while.
Ninja Gaiden would come in between, hardest of the 3 games by far but very little story so it will not attract casual gamers, the difficulty is too punishing and the game actually doesn't encourage you to learn all the weapons, you just have to learn the enemy patterns and then you can spam the same attacks all the time whereas at least DMC4 encourages you to be stylish and not spam the same attack all the time...
I would say DMC replayability is helped a lot by the fact that you can pick a mission to replay whereas for NG you have to replay the whole game to improve your score and it quickly becomes tedious...
Despite the fact that God of War is screwing Greek Mythology, is by far the best.
GoW>DMC>NG
I agree it does not justice for Myth but the most enjoyable out of the three series.
