Forums - Sony - ‘Old boys’ say Sony chief is losing his way

Lol, you sound like you know who all those old dogs are, care to let us in on your secret?

Ken Kutaragi not only created PS he also almost killed it as well with his need to innovate, as for the only other name mentioned in this article, Tamotsu Iba, that dude was the Director of the Life Insurance business according to Bloomberg, surely a place full of technology innovators...

Tamotsu Iba worked closely with Kozo Ohsone who is credited as one of the main developers of the Walkman.

Tamotsu Iba himself is a corporate auditor who was in charge of Sony's long range financial planning in the 90's.

They should go back to having sex with their daughters. (reference, it's a reference!)

Under his leadership they've seen the most profits they've had in 7 years. I'm sure several of those "old boys" are to blame for how long that took, especially if Kutaragi is among them.

Have some time to kill? Read my shitty games blog. http://www.pixlbit.com/blogs/586/gigantor21

:D

If the old boys was still running things, there won't be any Sony right now.

Sony needed to restructure to survive.

Can't keep living in the past.

While cutting costs was absolutely necessary, so does innovation to sell products, especially as an electronics company. You wouldn't buy a five year old TV set over a newer, much better one, right? Maybe that is what they are argueing about, as I don't notice much new stuff from Sony coming out lately which ain't Playstation or Movies related. And naturally, if there are no new products there, their sales will flunder in these areas.

In short, they do have a point, but are also vastly overdramatising - for now at least.

I guessed you missed CES 2015? Worlds thinnest 4K TV, new phones, crazy new Tablet that is truly iPad killer, and fantastic projector that only needs to be 5 inches from the wall.

the iPad is already dying... and I expect this new sony tablet is android... so you can forget it, it will be lost on the ocean of other better/cheaper alternatives.

the projector is very nice but very very niche.

thinnest 4k tv? great... they are all very thin already.

new phones? no comment other than pointless, thats a dead end for them.

I think you missed the point of my comment, the point is that Sony is still innovating. You pointed out the point in the thread being that the innovation is part of whats losing them money and that the old Sony guys don't really know what they're talking about.

Also the Z4 tablet has a chance in the business world, a keyboard compatible large long lasting waterproof tablet with full Microsoft Office support is highly appealling... if anyone knows about it. It's insanely thin and pretty, in my opinion easily the best Tablet on the market when it comes out. I doubt it'll be a huge success but the quality mark gets a massive tick.

"He doesn't have the sensibility or intellect to notice it’s wrong."

Questioning the intellect of Sony's CEO make it seem that this criticism is rather personal. I also assume that this interview is more laid back than it appears at first glance.

Innovating how?  Thinner isnt innovation, smaller isnt innovation. Not to me at any right... that is evolution not innovation.

Android tablets dont have a chance in the business world, despite office support, especially at that price point. Surface 3 and similar up to convertible laptops are eating that market up.

I guess we just have different definitions, but the Projecter is innovation easily to me anyway.

And again I said that's where it had it's best chance, I said I doubt it'll be a huge success I'm just happy they went all out on a product with no compromises.
