Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Predicts Better Results for Xbox’s Business Segments in Next Quarter

I don't think they have any significant first party games so they are probably counting on increased xbox sales from third party software.

X1 is still selling at a faster pace than X360 was. That's progress and I imagine profit. Why would they duck out of a growing market? Doesn't matter if they are number one if their Xbox division is profitable, which it is (correct me if I'm wrong).

I don't want them to leave the business and I doubt they will. The more competition the better.

Theyre not making profit not even close with the xbox one.

Surely the cost of manufacture cannot be too much higher than the selling price, no? I suppose there is marketing and distribution costs to take into consideration as well, but a higher number of consoles sold through means higher software sales and more income generated from Xbox Live. Even if they are not profiting now, the high rate of sale will generate a good future profit.

I don't think X1 will come anywhere close to XB360 LTD sales. MS benefitted a lot from that one year headstart + $600 PS3 launch price.

You are and no they didnt.

They said that April to June 2015 will beat Q4 FY2014.  i.e. Q4 FY 2105 will beat Q4 FY 2014.

or to make it really simple... April to June 2015 > April to June 2014.

I'm not so sure, they didn't mention anything about Q2 2014. I just read it back again and the point I'm picking out are:

  • Prediction of 1.5 - 1.6B for Q2 2015 - April - June.
  • They took 1.8B in the latest quarter, Q1 Jan - March.
  • They also took 1.44B in Q4 2014, Oct - Dec.
Just what I see it as.

You are confused with the Quarters.   April-June is not Q2 but Q4.   It is troublesome I know because if I am right for Sony (and most Japanse companies) April-June = Q1.

I think MS should get rid of Bing and Windows Phone, not Xbox. Who the hell uses Bing or a Windows Phone?

I have trouble comprehending making 1.8 Billion dollars in a Quarter. That's just an enormous amount of money.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

This is ridiculously confusing. I found this website, which states that the quarters are each just a 1/3 of the calender year:

http://www.investopedia.com/terms/q/quarter.asp

Then Wiki says that in the US the quarters are:

  • 1st quarter: 1 October 2014 – 31 December 2014
  • 2nd quarter: 1 January 2015 – 31 March 2015
  • 3rd quarter: 1 April 2015 – 30 June 2015
  • 4th quarter: 1 July 2015 – 30 September 2015
Wiki also says than a Japanese Fiscal year is from 1st April to the follow 31 March. Meaning that April - June would be Q1.
But this is about MS so their prediction of 1.5 to 1.6B is actually for Q3.

You are an endangered species haha ;)

Unlike Bing, I never had a problem with WP. In fact I kinda liked the UI. Unfortunately, like Zune, it just can't seem to compete.

one last time.  you are confusing calendar quarters and financial quarters.

april to june is Q4 for MS financials.
