I suppose there is marketing and distribution costs to take into consideration as well, but a higher number of consoles sold through means higher software sales and more income generated from Xbox Live. Even if they are not profiting now, the high rate of sale will generate a good future profit.
I don't think X1 will come anywhere close to XB360 LTD sales. MS benefitted a lot from that one year headstart + $600 PS3 launch price.

You are confused with the Quarters. April-June is not Q2 but Q4. It is troublesome I know because if I am right for Sony (and most Japanse companies) April-June = Q1.
I think MS should get rid of Bing and Windows Phone, not Xbox. Who the hell uses Bing or a Windows Phone?
I have trouble comprehending making 1.8 Billion dollars in a Quarter. That's just an enormous amount of money.

This is ridiculously confusing. I found this website, which states that the quarters are each just a 1/3 of the calender year:

Then Wiki says that in the US the quarters are:

Unlike Bing, I never had a problem with WP. In fact I kinda liked the UI. Unfortunately, like Zune, it just can't seem to compete.
