Forums - Nintendo - Do you see next gen being more successful for Nintendo?

I'd assume they'd at least do better than Wii U. Whether or not they can pull off something massive like the Wii again is questionable to me.

Of course, this gen Nintendo handheld and home consoles are at track around 80m LT.
Next home console will certanly sell better than Wii U and next handheld will probably again around 3DS numbers, so I think 80m for next gen is minimum.

Yes I do.
I believe haveing 1 peice of software (game) that runs on both the newest handheld (low resolution) and then a cheap consol that can play the same game, but at higher resolution, is a brilliant way to go.

atleast the consol version is bound to do better than the Wii U.

I think dedicated handhelds are going to continue to decline simply because a lot of people don't see the need for that anymore in the age of the smartphone/tablet.

But they will make more money next-gen by making games for iOS/Android, so it won't matter.

Depends on if they learned anything at all from the successes and failures of the current generation. Not just talking about the 3DS and the Wii U but also the PS4, Xbox One and Vita.

The Xbox One is currently everything Nintendo has wanted to avoid since the Gamecube, a machine with similar power that is somewhat languishing due to being to similar to a more popular opponent.

The PS4 is doing well based more on well timed exclusives, marketing and brand loyalty.

The Vita is really only big in Japan because it is the successor of the PSP and it works as a decent middle ground for developers that is close enough in power to consoles and PCs.

The Wii U failed not just because of the Gamepad or because of its lack of power, but because Nintendo didn't have enough games built around making the Gamepad enjoyable early on. Without the necessary killer software the system was sold on promise and not many people bought into the promise outside of the Nintendo faithful.

The 3DS is a success because it is the successor to the DS, plays great Nintendo games and would have probably sold as much with or without the much touted 3D effect. Sadly, at this point it is losing ground in Japan to Vita for one of the same reasons the DS lost ground, the majority of developers are ready to move beyond Nintendo's hardware and many of just don't trust Nintendo to sell non Nintendo software.

All these facts, strategies need to be influencing Nintendo in how they approach the next generation devices, partnerships and much more. Nintendo can be successful, although truthfully I don't have a lot of faith that Iwata, Reggie and Miyamoto are capable of learning from others.

Good post, but I thinking that they already started to think different, DLCs, Amiibos, announcement of heavy integration for home and handheld consoles for next gen, going on mobile market, new online services and account system...they admitted some Wii U mistakes..

Truth is nobody knows what they are to going nextbut I am pretty sure that they want repeat some of Wii U big mistakes like terrible name, bad and poor marketing, hardware not appealing for 3rd part..

Because all that I think next gen Nintendo consoles will sell better.

As long as they dont address the main problem like lacking major 3rd party games or more diversity of games genres interest in Nintendo will be declining.

Consoles... Hard to say not knowing what nx is but I'll blindly say yes. I have faith. Nintendo seem to be learning and growing as a company imo.

Handhelds... Not a chance.
