Forums - Sony - Playstation Home Beta Update: Don't Expect It Anytime Soon

^the lag with 10 people but I read they got up to 40 people. This is obviously a stress test they were doing.

Again, 10 people. It has trouble handling 10 people. How do people not see how completely ridiculous that is? At this point a stress test should be a couple thousand of people, not 40.

The bugs are bad enough (corrupt your data?) but the fact that something that is basically an MMO freaks the hell out when you have 40 people is insane. Hell, the PS2 can handle FFXI and there are often times over 100 people at the Auction House.

And yes, this is the beta but bugs as big as any of the bugs shouldn't be there. There are major freezing issues, major display issues, major login issues, and the fact it can't even function at the basic level (have all your friends logged in) is pretty terrifying. So before you tell me "lol it's the beta" just look at something like the Halo 3 beta. That's what a beta is supposed to run like, maybe a little worse but still at least run.

Again, 10 people. It can barely handle 10 people. How do people not see how completely ridiculous that is? At this point a stress test should be a couple thousand of people, not 40.

Lag may have been because of bad bandwidth. I'm not sure who they got this information from so I don't know if it was common or just one person. I will say this for certain though. The corrupt data is most likely the cause of it freezing in the middle of a save. Which yes because it was unstable the data got corrupt by a crash. The bug itself didn't corrupt it. I hope that makes sense. What I don't understand is why they are having problems. Sony has EQ, EQ2, and that starwars game. It's not like they don't have experience in this. And yes a stress test can be considered with 40 people. The thousands of members on would be checking the servers. I think this is a zone stess test. (see how many people can be in one area)

The bugs didn't stopped there. Funny thing over @ the PlayStation forums they were calling this beta alpha state build because beta's are at least suppose to work.

Looks like it's not just one person.

And I'm sure the corrupt data is due to freezing but that doesn't change the fact it's a huge problem (but still not as bad as the amount of people on at once).

How long has this been in development?  Quite a while.  Many games before have this have been able to have much more than 40 in a zone and it's just sad that this game can't  Since this is supposed to be a big social tool, I would think they would allow more than 40 people in one area at once.  Especially in the bigger areas.

There is absolutely no pretty to this article.  Home has been in development for a pretty good while and they are still having huge troubles.  If it's been in development this long and they still haven't gotten some of the basics working, I wonder how long it will actually take them to get it right?

I agree it aint pretty. It seems to me that a freezing problem would be easier to fix than a bug that corrupts data(wich is what the article made it seem like)

And yes I don't see what is going on. Like I said they have MMO experience.

Big problems for sure

I still dont think online is the key bussness for this gen.
Sadly, Sony seems not aware of this.

Time to Work !

I'll wait until a more respectful site puts it up [kotaku, joystiq] before I believe it.

There is no video of it. And overall this is a beta. So hopefully they can add more servers and work it out.

But if true, this sucks

Oh well looks like this will be coming out for christmas, which aint such a bad thing as it will be perfect timing to atract the casual's for the sales rush.

i think its going to be soon... I have worke in software houses for like 4 yrs and i can say that Bug identification is a much much more difficuilt thing than Bug fixing ... most of the time... and from the description most of them look like server tuning bugs.. and the system stability and performance and outlook improves visibly with every weekly or fortnightly build (depending upon which schedule they are following..

So if they have completed the functionality and frozen it that is they have decided they are not going to add any more functionality until the launch then i expect them to get it ready for release for around July - August at most.

I don't really see a big problem, the beta was running very smooth with over 40players before on screen, that means the recent update has caused this problem. Once they find out what the bug is everything will be back to the way it was.

why don't sony just scrap home? it's the worst idea i've seen for a games console in ages! i totally hate the idea of home. the logo pisses me off too. they put so much resource into it that they have suffered severely in (my opinion) more important areas of gaming.

mark my words, home will be a big disappointment.
