One review on the 13th and the other on the 17th? This could take a while.

From the Push Square review:

"Unfortunately, aforementioned idol pals are cliché archetypal characters that often serve as little more than a reminder of the utterly depressing side of Japanese idol culture, throwing in quips and attempts at parody here and there as if in reparation. These utterly cringe-worthy conversations are everywhere, they serve no purpose, and they feel like they never end."

This, to me, illustrates to me why video-game review scores in a vacuum are kind of ridiculous. The person who wrote this really doesn't sound like they wanted to play this game. If we read the text, we can see that clearly. Why, then, would we hold this score equal with that of someone who clearly enjoys the subject matter going in? It requires reading the reviews themselves to see which we relate with the most.

As for my own thoughts on the game, I really dislike idol culture but this sounds more like satire. I kind of want to play it.

I agree and I don't care about reviews, just wanted to give the game some exposure as I doubt there were many interested in making a review thread for this game.

I played the japanese demo and the gameplay is pretty solid, I'm not concerned about that part. My only doubt resides in whether the dialog/humour is going to hit notes with me or not. With Neptunia it does, as you'd expect because it's about games, consoles etc, but with this revolving around idols I don't know what to expect. Some people are already playing the english version on YT so I'll have to have a look that. Shame that they're playing it with english voices though

I understand.  I just wanted to point out that this is a perfect example of why a Metacritic average is often useless with Japanese games.

As for me, obviously I like a lot of Japanese media, but idol culture is something that holds no interest for me.  However, I have enjoyed games, anime, and even live action Japanese series that parody idol culture.  That's why I'm interested.

Spot on pokoko.

See this all too often, especially in regards to Japanese games.

I think the biggest issue with Metacritic is how people use it. If you want a generalized (if slightly limited) view of a game, then Metacritic can be a useful source of information. However, the very nature of generalized data means it's often inaccurate on an individual or linear basis, especially with games that have a more limited appeal (as would be the case here).

Actually reading reviews from across the scale and using the metascore as a reference point is a far better way of going about things than "Wow, this game only has a 55, it must be inherently terrible!" or vice versa.

75/100 from ZTGD http://www.ztgd.com/omega-quintet/review/
will add to op

Push Square has given about every single Compile Heart game a bad rating. This was no surprise. As for myself, I'm getting this game alongside a PS4 in may.

i NEVER pay attention to Metacritic when looking for third party low budget Japanese games, for the exact reason Pokoko pointed out.

if it was for Metacritic i would have never bothered with Neptunia since the best game has a meta of 55, and im glad i didn't care for those scores since i really enjoyed those games (well with the exception of the first one which did had some problems but the other 2 were really fun).

i would like to play this game but i need to first get some old games that i haven't bought yet, (like Fairy Fencer F, Disgaea D2, Nino Kuni and a bunch more)
