Forums - Nintendo - 17 minutes of Xenoblade Chronicles X soundtrack samples

Oh 17 minutes of eargasm? I´m in!

Around the Network

Not a huge fan of this soundtrack to be honest. The lyric songs are way too "pop" for me, and the non-lyric songs sound very similar with each-other to the point where an original and good song becomes stale. Xenoblade and Xenogears have great soundtracks in comparison. Who knows, maybe these songs will fit well in the atmosphere of the game.

I love it.

I´ve never heard this kind of soundtrack on a Rpg and I really like it. They mix classic orchesta, j-pop, rock, electronic, even rapcore. A very personal soundtrack. Love it.

Hiroyuki Sawano in best form. At least one thing I can look forward to.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Eh, it's alright. Still prefer the XC soundtrack but there's still time.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Nice, very nice, I am liking what I am hearing, BUT I definitely need to hear the full tracks and not snippets like this.

Strange thing though, the music will sound better with actual gameplay, so that we can associate that moment in the story with a particular song.
... so what I am trying to say is that the music will definitely be better while I play the game.

It's a pretty unique soundtrack for JRPGs. I agree the non-vocal orchestral tracks kind of blend a bit, or at least they're not as good as the vocal tracks which are more distinct. There are a couple of good tracks from those sampled, though I need to listen to full versions. 12:13 is my favorite newer track.

Really?
For me vocals destroy the immersion. If I am on a huge mountain and then I see the sunset why would there be vocals at all? Music can create a feeling vocals destroy it for me. Vocals fit a movie or a cutscene but NOT a game because 99% of the time they are obtrusive and not accompanying the music. Have bad singers that fail at delivering the songs emotional message or the vocals dont fit the "action" (as in thing happening not ACTION as in killing etc.) on the screen.

Just talking about the songs with singers or "vocals" (alot of aaaaaaaaa  eeeeee  ooooo without words I also clasify as part of the vocal track list)
Track with vocals starting at 1:52 = crap. (bad singer)
Track with vocals starting at  3:28 = good ("choir" not annoying voice not to loud compared to the music)
Track with vocals starting at 4:20 = meh(not as annoying as the first vocals track but has neither any kind of epicness nor futuritic sound just sounds like some random garage band and is boring)
Track with vocals starting at 4:49 ( sounds like vocaloid. Might be shopping district music)
Track with vocals starting at 5:23 (only plausible use for me would be end title/credits.)
Track with vocals starting at 6:08 (also just sounds like a cutscene theme to me. Melody etc is okay would be much better without singer)
Track with vocals starting at 6:58 sounds good to me because again the vocals are not obtrusive.
Track with vocals starting at 7:55 also sounds like a garage band. (does nothing for me not emotionally nothing)
Track with vocals starting at 8:25 sounds good to me same reason as previuos "good song"
Track with vocals starting at 9:10 again just garage band song.
Track with vocals starting at 10:22  also garage band
etc etc etc.

All the garage band music would fit cutscenes imo but not exploring not fighting not running away nothing gameplay related. And just being there so at least something is being played like in Tony Hawk games etc is nothing I need in a game. I would rather listen to my own music than to "pseudo" radio.

We just have different values. I appreciate unique soundtracks like this. I don't really care about immersion. Also I don't think many of the poppy tracks are going to be playing while you're on top of a mountain, but probably in a city, battle, or cutscene.

The tracks are still composed specifically for this game, so I'm going to consider that in mind than thinking that some random radio music is playing in the background while I'm playing the game.

I also appreciate unique soundtracks but if I have a song that has no reason to be there.....  I mean I am also one of the "please Link never have a voice" people.  Because I 'd rather have NO voice or singer than a bad one or one that does not deliver what (s)he is supposed to do.

For me the "garage band music" is like the game is trying to convince me I am playing a game like Tony Hawk or something that plays a fake radio station.  If Xenoblade does have a hoverboard park with a hoverboard minigame that is as complex as Tony Hawn and the music is only playing there.  Then just ignore what I said. xD

TBH I wish that every game would allow me to play my own music. I mean I do not like that garage band type of music at all. I also dont like metal or hip hop or whatever (most of the mainstream stuff) . For me  an epic adventure with a science fiction background totally clashes with these types of music. its like playing electronic dance music in a movie about Christoph Columbus and his journey to the american continents.

Well lets see how the game ends up I can complain about it when I 100%-ed it.

Hey let´s not judge the effect of the soundtrack in the game before the game is out.

They have done an amazing work here, The production level is very high, the variety and personality of the soundtrack is remarkable.

Vocal soundtrack doesn´t kill the inmersion. The World Ends With You had an amazing j-pop soundtrack plenty of vocal tracks. It didn´t kill the inmersion, the game had great reviews and people loved it. The soundtrack was one of its bigger highlights, all vocal j-pop tracks.

I think this is a great soundtrack for the kind of environment Monolith is wanting to show us.

I don't understand why people want a soundtrack on par with Xenoblade Chron. Even the main character in the new game is just an avatar. That's how different the game will be. Let the game be unique from the original.
