"Fighting Genre" Games this Generation, Will It Decline Again/Stay About Flat/etc in terms of Sales?

Fighting games use to be pretty big, especially back in the SNES/N64 era, but once gen 7 started a decline from almost all fighting type franchises were notable.

Will we see it decline yet again? Stay about the same? What?

MK/SF/Tekken/etc!

I think they'll rise for a time, but fighting games will never regain their prominence if they continue to mistake their value. I think that the Killer Instinct model is the most forward thinking one so far. Create a platform, and continue on from there. With a big name like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat doing this, it can reduce the barrier for entry without dumbing down the mechanics.

One of my favorite genres!
But I doubt that it will make a comeback this generation, fighting game sales were terrible in the last generation and nothing is new in this generation. Sales will sadly be even more down this generation!

Did fighters really decline in gen 7? I know they weren't as big as they were in the 90's but to me it seems like they were much bigger during gen 7 than during gen 6.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

they will increase they are cheap to produce but real 3D fighters will decline. I think its only tekken and dead or alive, now nothing else except wresting and mma or what ever EA comes up with

I feel like fighting games are booming right now actually. Millions of players have downloaded KI, Mortal Kombat X will surely have a big release, and Street Fighter V has big hype behind it being a console exclusive. Then Smash Bros which is receiving much better feedback from FGC than Brawl.

With people like Maximillian around promoting fighting games, itll have a community.

If we are talking about just the Hardcore community instead of sales, Fighting genre is definitely getting bigger.

The 2 things i know is...

KI is f***ing huge now, it was a good thing this game is free and many people jumped on it. Hearing only good things from it too.

SSB: Well how should i put this, SSBM is still getting bigger,a community grwing 13 years+. Already at Evo its 1k fighting in both Melee and U. Also SSBU is definitely getting huge, despite Melee fanboys (gives me a headache as both are big but they only want just Melee to live smfh). Then also there is Project M which not as big as U+Melee but its definitely bigger than 75% of other fighting communities based off of pro players/etc.

SF is always huge despite the major decline from its peak(i mean i feel like they are #1in the community, with Melee being #2)

I dunno about MK and i hear tekken is casual (i dunno)

i use to play Soul Calibur, fun as hell especially 2.

Oh yeah, another potential huge hit, could be (if coming to WiiU) is Pokken Fighters, i dunno. I see it not being as hardcore obviously with its gameplay mechanics...... BUTTTTTTTTTTT ITS F***ING POKEMON

I say stay flat. I'm avoiding fighting games, till the 4th version is available. Capcom did that to themselves.

I say it will stay flat or even decrease slightly.
